Hello, I am considering signing on with hostrocket but my concern is with my Vbulletin. A member said that with only 4 people on his forum he was already getting mysql "too many connections" errors. My question is, how many concurrent members can this mysql hold without erroring? The site that I am building here is a upcoming bands site. So at first the visitors will be few, but over time of a few months it will grow.
Thank you.

Hi,
The mysql too many connection problem was only for part of one day on one server until we got it fixed. Keep in mind that the problems you see posted on these forums are those of 3000+ customers.

what's the answer?
I'm interested in the answer to how many concurrent users until it creates "too many connections".
I've been getting "too many connections" all day today. While I do get them occasionally, I have not received such frequent "too many connections" since late Feb.
This is with less then 4 people on my site. Has the configuration changed on the server today (or yesterday) to cause this?
Regards, Joseph

I ran vB on my site until my site was suspended due to
"Looking at the notes on your account, it says you were suspended because your account was using too much of the servers resources. It specifically noted your message board which often has 40 concurrent users. " -HR Support
so.. if you plan on having a vB with around 40 concurrent users...you might need to reconsider.
But a thing i didn't understand was... the only time we had 40 concurrect users was durring the evening. which USUALLY last 1-2 hr... the rest of the time... maybe 10-20 concurrect users... and even less durring off-peak hours. Or why couldn't you just move my site to a different server? I have no idea. Oh well... right now I'm down and a representitive has yet to tell me what is going to happen next. FYI, my account was suspend w/o a warning. I wish they would at least keep me updated with my account.

Would I be better off using UBB instead of VBB? I like VBB more, but if UBB is better because it in no way affects mysql, then I guess thats the way I will go.

VB is better than the other chat programs really, the CGI ones are worse on the server than the others.

I am currently thinking about using vB but are concerned about using too much resources (not at this point but if something starts growing ...)! It is more a pain to tell your users that you cannot provide the service anymore after is was out there for them than not offering it all in the beginning - you know what I mean - I guess.
Brendan,
What are your standards for having vB on a server? Where do you draw the line for too much load on the server? Any numbers for us? How can we help to minimize the impact on a server?
Maybe you have a few suggestions for us?
Thanks!

Hi,
We dont have a set number really, but if it consistantly has more than 20 people on the site, then its gonna be too big.

Thanks! I will put that in consideration if I come to a point to decide if I am going to use vB!
Have a great day!

Yeah, my site will not have more than 10 at peak times. So I am not worried. Thanks for the responces.
Good job also, on the forums here. It is a great asset to know there is a place to get questions answered.

Does 'concurrect users' actually mean - users posting/searching or visitors who go through the forums and just read postings? Sorry, if that sounds dumb but I am trying to find out how much traffic I would have to calculate with in regards to the concerns mentioned above (number of users). I know I use vBulletin here and on other places but I do not know what's behind it.
Thanks!
