Hello all-
Fairly new VT customer here. Brought my own HT-502 for use. Since signing up for the service, I have been using it as the first device after my cable modem, and have a Linksys/Cisco 8-port router/switch feeding my PC's from the 502's LAN port.

With most of the 502's settings still on default, the thing works fine. However, there are a few settings that I have noticed which I feel might be worth adjusting, but since it isn't broke, I'm not wanting to fix it unless there is something to gain by doing so, for obvious reasons...

First thing- I am constantly reading about people having problems with their devices when behind a router, and plenty of people who help them get up and running. My question on this: is there anything to gain by placing the 502 behind the router, or is it fine where it is, provided WAN access and ping response are disabled? What is to be gained by placing it behind a router?

Second- assuming that I am leaving it where it is- directly after the modem(motorola surfboard 4100, no router or switch)- is there anything I should set different on the "basic" network page? Out of the box, NAT Router mode is on. Should this be set to bridge mode, since I have the Linksys router/switch feeding my pc's behind it? It currently works with NAT enabled, but I read somewhere that this is called a "double nat", and isn't exactly right...Will I gain anything by switching to bridge mode? A few lines down from that, it gives me the option to enable or disable LAN DHCP- default is "on", but since I have a router/switch after the 502 feeding the pc's- should I enable or disable LAN DHCP on the 502? I'm thinking that the NAT and LAN DHCP settings on the 502 may possibly be in line for some modifications...

Third- if I keep my 502 directly behind the cable modem, do I need to use the STUN server thing? I am a bit confused by the whole STUN thing, but from what I gather, it is more for use if you are behind a router or firewall of some sort...Currently, it is on- but I'm wondering if I really need it...

Please note that my service works just fine- no complaints here. I know that old saying well: if it ain't broke, don't fix it- but if I can disable something in the 502 because it is redundant with my router/switch, it might actually improve things even more, so it's always worth at least asking...

I want to buy it from BSNL only. I could not find details about them on bsnl site. So u please tell What r different types of modem available from BSNL for broadband? what is meant by type 1, type 2,type 3 and type 4 modem? what r the differences among them ? which type of modem suits my pc ( note -: i want to have broadband through ethernet port) in other words which type of modem is made for what type of pc?

i was wondering what box would suit me because ive no router and the broadband connection isnt constant im situated in ireland and was looking for a simple setup to pick up sy or something similar
