Hello!
I'm new to setting up email accounts, and would like any help/thoughts what not. I tried to get Outlook to point to an email address I created, and thru Outlook I'm able to receive mail, but got a "time out by server error" when I try to send emails. I went ahead and tried thru the web mail thru the control panel thru HR, and I was able to send mail (from the created account), but not recieve. I figure that I'm doing something not too bright since I've created quite a convoluted method of recieving and sending emails. Any thoughts/help/advice would be much appreciated...
Thanks,
Chris

Make sure that the :
my server requires authentication
box is ticked in the outlook / outlook express settings, this normally is the root of the problem.

Hmmm...checked the "my server requires authentification" and it was already selected.
I clicked on properties, and noticed that the password field did not have anything in it. I added the password, ticked "remember password".
Here's the route I went: Tools->Accounts->Properties->Servers...and that's where I found the "my server needs authentication".
Hmm...my incoming POP3 and outgoing SMTP are the same, is that correct? Could this be the reason why I'm getting the error...
BTW, the error is: "The TCP/IP connection was unexpectedly terminated by the server. (Acount 'chris@zynski.com', SMTP Server: 'mail.zynski.com', Error Number: 0x800ccc0f).
Also, thanks for the response...

Yeah, I just normally tick the box that says
Use same settings as incoming mail rather than fill in the username and password for outgoing.

K, I must be an idiot, b/c it's still not working. Could there be something whacky when the SMTP was set up for the account? As I said, I don't have much experience w/ this, so I don't know exactly what's going on. However, I tried to point my yahoo account to recieve the mail, but when I put in the pop account, it said my pop3 server is invalid. I did exactly as the provided documentation:
Pop3 Server: mail.yourdomain.com
SMTP Server: mail.yourdomain.com
Login: account@yourdomain.com
Pass: password
(of course swapping the proper domain/account/password).
I did this in Outlook, and no avail...I think that there's some kind of whacky configuration on my mail account. I had my buddy try doing everything as well, and he had no luck. This is NOT that hard, it can't be that hard...
Thanks for the help Justin...

yeah, the SMTP and POP3 servers are always the same on CPanel webservers, can't think why it doesn't work.
Do you have Outlook Express Installed, as it may be a good idea to try retreving email through that, as that is how I retrive my email now, even though I have outlook installed.

I'll try that...I'm trying Outlook and not express. I'll try that tonight! Thanks again for the responses!

It should really work in both, but I have had a few problems with Outlook over the last few years, and sometimes the same things work fine in Outlook Express
