All I want is if someone types the wrong address on my domain they have a 401 page... that might convert some traffic... and redirect them to my homepage...

Do you mean a 404 eror page ?
If so you can do it through your .htaccess file.
Well either way.. what ever error you're trying to catch 401/404.. it can be done through your .htaccess.

The best way to do this is to create the .shtml files and put them in each of your root directories, by this I mean, they have to be in your public_html folder and EACH of your subdomain folders to work. For instance, a 404 file would be 404.shtml

In your .htaccess file put
ErrorDocument 404 /path/to/404/page.html
