Hi folks,
Since around November, I have not been able to *send* e-mail using the hostrocket e-mail account. Incoming e-mail reaches me just fine.
I have been using both Outlook and OE for e-mail handling, and have not changed anything on the settings.
(I get a "The connection to the server has failed ... Socket Error 10060, Error number 0x800CCC0E" message.)
Any tips?
(I haven't heard from support yet, I figured maybe one of you might have experienced the same thing....)
Thanks!

I use to have these problems too. This is what i did and seens to fix the problem.
1. Go into your email accounts manager.
2. Then go into you Outgoing Server settings.
3. Check "My Outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication".
4. And last Check " Use same as my incoming server".
Hope that works, let me know.

Rats! I thought that'd do it, but I'm afraid it didn't- got a delay, and then "connection has failed" ... again.
Excellent suggestion, and thank you for replying, though!
Maybe tech support will get back to me. I put in another trouble ticket last night...

FYI, in case any other folks have this problem:
I got this reply from Tech Support:
"Earthlink blocks the use of any other outgoing mail server besides their own."
So I contacted Earthlink, and here's the scoop:
"The problem you are having is due to Port 25 blocking.
This blocks any 3rd pary outgoing mail servers from being
accessed while connected to the EarthLink network via
Dialup, DSL or Cable.
This has been done to elminate much of the spam
originating from our customers. Most of this spam
is being sent from 3rd party SMTP servers and not the
EarthLink SMTP servers.
All you need to do is go into your e-mail program's
settings and change the outgoing mail server
to either mail.mindspring.com or mail.earthlink.net.
One of these will work for you and allow you to send mail
while connected to your EarthLink connection without a problem."
Peace!

Hi all,
I've changed my Outlook account settings as suggested, but I'm still having a problem with outgoing messages.
Anyone else have any experience with this, or ideas? I don't use Earthlink, but I do have a hotmail account- maybe microsoft mail has some quirky port issues as well?
(Also, my hostrocket mail doesn't fail consistently, it's one or two days weekly)
I have this problem with a number of my outside people using our corporate servers.
Add Mindspring (merged with Earthlink)
Prodigy (and a number of recently aquired ISP's)
NetZero (not sure how the Juno merge will apply)
AOL - Ok for SMTP but blocks other non-standard ports (our VPN is blocked)
You can also see if a different local dial-up number is available for your ISP. The ISP I have for personal use has several that are a local call for me but only one is fully open to the internet. I need to use that specific one for SMTP, VPN, etc.
The bottom line is check with the ISP that you use...

I asked my spouse was traveling on business to LA to try testing with me Xronos Instant ONLINE can be Free messaging.
Also looked at PHP LIve! which costs 100 but gives you the moon.
Any way I guessed that the Chat did not work the grey box not turning GOLDEN possibly due to Earthlink and a 486. Unfortunately I could not test that speculation since only got to do that Test once!
