View Full Version : Transfer of Domain Name
We currently have our domain registered with Network Solutions. What steps do we take to sign up with HostRocket.com and transfer the domain over?
What advantages are there to transfer the domain over? I heard that Network Solutions isn't a great place to register or hold the domain name. And also it's cheaper to have Hostrocket handle it.
What does it mean to have your domain name handled by one place or the other?

Hi,
The best way to do it if you are switching to us as a host and as a registrar, is do the following.
1. Sign up for an account
2. Upload your site
3. Change your nameservers
4. Close your old account
5. Ask us to change you to us as a registrar.
Its better to change the registrar last because we have to wait 15 days after a transfer before we are allowed to modify the nameservers (NSI rule)

Is there any advantage to switching to HostRocket as the Registrar if I've already obtained a name from Network Solutions?

No. 1 - The fee is only $20 a yr. compared to the outlandish price Network Solutions costs.
No. 2 - Your site is always maintained by us, so whenever a backend change takes place, or anything of that nature, your domain name servers are always changed, so your domain is a tad bit more reliable at times.
- Hope this helps!

I have been struggling with Networks Solutions for the past several weeks to transfer my domain to hostrocket. Any suggestions?? My account was with Simplenet who was taken over by Yahoo, and Yahoo uses Network Solutions. Should I close my Yahoo account first and try changing nameservers because...Network Sollutions isnt even allowing me to do that...Im frustrated and Im very close to just leaving it there..

During the 15 days that the domain name is being transferred, is the site still accessable via the domain name? Assuming I changed the Nameservers over already and they are working before I close the account at Network Solutions.
