View Full Version : oO er..(long post)
I've been working on a website for over a year now it's called RockstarPets, where ppl come and adopt a Rockstar and look after them, feeding them, playing with them and taking them to gigs. I used a form to submit info on what the player was doing..then i would go into my mail, find out what player fed what pet and with what..and then i would go into my file manager and update how the pet was feeling. You can have a look at an example here ---->> http://www.geocities.com/rockstarpets/ex
Now i'm looking to make a bot of some kind to help me. I don't know where to begin but i need to do it cause it's taking up alot of my time going through each pet everyday. I'm wondering if someone could help me?
Ta!!

I would suggest that you use some kind of PHP or CGI script or you can use java, but You are going to have to go to like http://hotscripts.com or http://cgi-resources.com or you will have to find someone to make you on this can be some what expensive, people charge from $50/hour to over $200/hour, I would search at those sites then contact an developer if you cant find anything.

Hello Carly,
I aggree that you should use PHP/and a database to handle your pets. Then you will never need to check out what is happening on your side except when u are curious. Everything will be handled by scripts.
If you expect income, jusy hire someone. Otherwise check out some volunteer developers to do this for you. But u will need better than geocities to go on with that side if u want database driven website. Because you need some features like PHP/MySQL as base.
Good luck

I still have yet to find a good reason to use java, even in an enterprise situation. Php can handle most tasks, and for those it cant, there is always the option of creating customized php modules. To me, java is just a cpu cycle bandit. ;)

This is a great reason cause only Java or C can handle state push and Pull over HTTP
Try it with PHP and tell me how can u run a socket with PHP that is valid for the whole run of a session
Um? Guys i don't know much about php.. i've downloaded a lil book off the web but i'm still not catching on. I've posted on a few boards on php sites but i'm not getting a reply..oh well it just means tons of work or i'll have to close it :((
Thanks anyway guys! :D
