Sendmail slugishness?

I have a Perl application that uses sendmail to send out a welcome e-mail to new members. I am noticing that sendmail is taking 15 minutes to 2 hours to deliver the e-mail, even when it's to a hostrocket address. Does everyone else have this problem, or is it an isolated case? This same perl application has no problem on my previous host... the e-mail always are sent almost instantaneously.

BTW, I am on host18.

sending mail was really slow for me (using a PHP function on host19) for a few days as well. Seems to be working normally now.
