Well since the raw log files are available only to root.. it would be nice if you setup log files (error log, and access log) for each domain, or those that request it. This is a MAJOR feature that MOST hosts provide (in my experience), and I found it strange that HR didnt support individual log files. In theory, if the CP can display any sort of log information, than this would be possible. Possibly you could write a script that would run through your log files, check the user of each line's log... and append it to their own log file. This could run every hour or so. Then you could have one for the error log that would go through any time that the root error log was modified, and take those mods and send them to the correct user. These scripts could be fairly simple. All it has to do is copy the line from one file to another!

Jordan,

You can get your sites access logs by going to Raw Access Logs from the controlpanel (at the bottom).

There is also an icon for Error Logs on the controlpanel. However, it supposed to show my 300 error messages and it's always blank. That's probably too good to be true. :)

On my old host, I used to be able to just ftp to a subdirectory called logs on my site and download the logs for access, error and xfer. Seemed a bit more straight forward.

My Error log isn't always blank. People seam to like typing in addressed that don't exists like favicon.ico - which i created in 10 secs so i would get that mesage and robots.txt

Ok i know that these are to do with IE 5 and search engines, but still some people are weird.

Yoiu know what I think. I think wevery should have there own webalizer config files. Because, you can never find referers to your site because with the current config, your own site is a refer and it gets so annoying./ PLus your own IP takes liike so many hits, etc.

Should we ask if they can do stuff like this, give own weblizer cinfig files or - ignore refers from http://www.youesite.com ??

I dont think that we can alter anything about our stats, and we dont have access to our own log files:-(

about favicon.ico... it is a file that is automatically requested by newer Internet Explorer versions. This icon is saved with favorites and also displayed in the address bar. If you simply create an authentic windows icon (youll probably need to use c++ or another special editor because saving a bitmap as .ico wont work for this) and upload it to the web root of your server (filename favicon.ico) it will use this stuff automatically.

JordanTLClive, perhaps your account hasn't been switched to the new control panel???
Don't really know if this would be the reason why you aren't getting access to your logs from your control panel(I just recently started with hostrocket and have only had the new panel).

During the first couple days I had my account, I didn't have any easy access to my log. However, I put in a ticket and had access the following day. During this time a few few more features were added to the panel (and saw access to log files listed as a 'new' feature), so I don't know if there was a problem with my account or if I signed up just before this feature was implemented. So, maybe a sending a troubleticket will get things going for you.

Also, during the couple days before the log feature was added to my panel, I did hunt down my log file. It was located at: /usr/local/apache/domlogs (access log was the file named after my domain). In my home directory I created a symbolic link to this file, so I could get at it easily.

Hope this helps.

I'm placing some information on the creation and use of favicon.ico files in the links thread.

YES! That would be so much better!

I do have access to the logs via CP but I want to have access to the raw data stored in a log file. I also used to have this at my old host and its the only think I REALLY miss a lot. It's a service offered by almost any host who uses Alabanza... so I assume some of the older HR customers who are ont he old servers still have access to this. I'm just wondering why this hasent been implemented on the new systems considering it is a very valuable option to have and it may actually turn away some customers.
