PHP BOARD

Open BB (http://www.openbb.net)

PHPBB (http://www.phpbb.com)

PHPBB 2 (still beta) (http://phpbb.sourceforge.net/phpBB2/index.php)

CGI Board

YABB (http://yabb.xnull.com/)

Ikonboard (http://www.ikonboard.com/)

Or Search in

CGI Ressources Index (http://cgi.resourceindex.com/Programs_and_Scripts/Perl/Bulletin_Board_Message_Systems/), PHP Ressource Index (http://php.resourceindex.com/Complete_Scripts/Bulletin_Board_Message_Systems/) or on Hotscript (Perl and PHP) (http://www.hotscripts.com/)

But I must say that VBulletin really rocks!!!!! :)

phpBB is free and it rocks! 2.0 is going to make it even beter. Not to mention that there are a lot of hacks to modify its features alowing more customization available on the Internet.

PHPBB2 is nice, but I'd go with IB3 (Ikonboard) Very shortly they will be releasing the gold version which will include a mysql, ms-sql, and other database backends. The support for IB is awesome and the have a great community. check them out at http://forums.ikonboard.com
