I added a subdomain and uploaded a web site to the folder created. I thought that I could then access the website by going to http://www.subdomain.domain.com and the site would load. When I go to what I believed was the subdomain, my domain page loads. If I go to http://www.domain.com/subdomain then the subdomain site loads. If this is the way it works, then why have a subdomain? Am I doing something wrong? Does the subdomain index.htm file have to be named something else?

You have to submit a trouble ticket first to enable subdomains.

After you do, delete the subdomain directory, recreate it under subdomains from the controlpanel and then copy your subdomain files back into it.

I tried doing as you suggested, but still the same results. I have had two trouble tickets on this problem, but they both said it was working properly. Is my assumption correct that the subdomain should default to an index.htm file in that folder?

Yes it should default to index.html, or index.php or the like.

I had this same problem. I set up a subdomain before I submitted a trouble ticket.

I had to delete the folder and reset it up in the control panel then copy the files back. Then I waited about 24 hours for the domain to resolve and it worked.

You CANNOT use the http://www. WWW is not an automatic thing you put before all internet addresses, as some people believe. Subdomains are simply subdomain.yourdomain.tld on this system. If you want the www part, your going to have to contact HR to see if theyll set it up special for you. Also, you do not have to delete the subfolder. If you already have a folder named "cars" and you create a subdomain cars, it makes the existing folder live instantly, you dont have to re-upload it.

It works without the http://www., and it also works with http://www.domain.com/subdomain. I don't think I would have tried it without the www, thinking that it would be needed.

Thanks.

I'm having the same problem, but quite frankly, it's benifiting me more than hurting me. I have completely destroyed some message board software that I'll have to replace but other than that it works great.

I have software arleady set up to handle multiple domains, so I ust set that software to also work with my subdomains and it redirects to whatever subdirectory I want.

Wha'ts great about the problem is that the subdomains are 'wildcarding' so that anything.wonderfulwebpages.com forwards to whatever directory I want it to, it works out great for me.

Has anyone else noticed that when accessing a subdomain it actually goes to http://www.yourdomain.com/[e][m][p][t][y].gif and then redirects to the subdomain? Ive noticed this a few times when the server was workign slower.
