I've just sighed up with HRWEBHOSTING and I'm looking for some help with designing a cgi script for my page. It would be so that users besides myself could update the daily news by themselves instead of e-mailing me the update and me posting it, if anyone can help I would appreciate it. Check out the web site at http://www.mwntd.com.

Thanks :)

I think that this would be done easier if you used PHP and mySQL instead of Perl (CGI). Perl is good, but harder to setup and harder to run as an easily updated type. I write in Perl and just learned PHP, and PHP has all, if not more, of the capabilites that Perl has, but much easier to use.

P.S. How much would you pay for something like this?

thanks josh...
about the payment, I have never paid for/inquired about/looked for information on any typed of script, cgi, pearl or php :) . I have not the slightest clue as to what the going rate for this type of thing is, however, it would help me out a lot...and I would be willing to pay money for it...does anyone know what this type of thing costs?

Newspro is available for free. Try a search at google. If you can't find it, drop me a line and I will find the URL. It will allow you and users to add news to the site.

Good news scripts: NewsPro (http://amphibian.gagames.com/newspro/), nPHP (http://sheepcow.nexen.net/)

brilliant idea for a script.

now that i think about it, it would be perfect.
my site is automotively based. i attend many carshows, take pic of many local car clubs and such. and it would suit my site perfectly if i could implement a script in which visitors could go in and post cars for sale or tires & rims for sale, ya know?

the one that was suggested a few lines up, NEWSPRO? to the person that made that siggestion, i did check out their site and it does not state whether or not the scipt accepts GIF or JPGs, which again would be perfect.

please get back to me.
or even if someone who write PHP or Perl, let me know and i'd be willing to pay. not and arm and a leg, not even a leg. but i wouldnt mind paying for a fine script like that.

Why don't you use PHPNuke? (http://www.phpnuke.org) It is a PHP Portal system that has news, guestbook, member signup, polls etc...and has a very nice admin panel to go with it? Look at it here on my site http://www.islandncs.com/ad/ bear in mind that I'm not finished with the site yet...If you want cgi then get NewsPro (http://amphibian.gagames.com/newspro/) which is the one of the best News Scripts out there (although the coding is very sloppy in version 3.75 and earlier) and it has alot of addons to use with it as well. I am also a Alpha tester for the new version 4.0 named Coranto. If you are looking for speed then go with PHPNuke since it utilizes a PHP/MySQL backend!

Here is the link to the NewsPro web site: http://amphibian.gagames.com/newspro/

If that doesn't work go to http://www.google.com and type in +newspro +script - It came up top of the list for me

I've never used it, but I'm gonna give it a go now.

i downloaded NEWSPRO and i really like it.
has anyone else used and installed it?
or am i the only one still playing in perl?

if someone has, please post your like here,
i'd like to the some other NEWPROS to see what they may look like, cuz changing the look is not easy.

also, i am having trouble with figuring out how to download and install the Apache server so that i can run my own PHP apps.

Another place to find thousands of scripts : http://www.hotscripts.com.

For your specific needs, go directly to that page :

Hoping this help.

I have just installed it.

You can configure the way it looks in the newspro.cgi file - well that's how I did it, anyways.

You can have a look at: http://216.74.100.101/bws/ and then go to "Latest News" for the NewsPro feature.

Please note that this site is still under development, so the news isn't really news, just a bunch of test's.
