View Full Version : New customers get a better deal
I've been a ViaTalk customer for some time now. I'm at the point where my contract will expire soon and Verizon FIOS is available in my neighborhood. I don't really use unlimited calling or unlimited long distance. I can get bundled packages from both Verizon and Cox that includes phone service. I'm considering that route because I'm hoping the service will be more stable. I looked today at the option of renewing my ViaTalk plan. I see that new customers are offered a buy one get one year free deal. Existing customers get a less favorable plan. Its a shame existing customers aren't offered the same promotion.

I couldn't agree more. My contract will expire in a couple of months. At $199 for 2 years I could live with the delays and other issues but the renewal rate is not nearly as good so I will probably not bother to renew. It is not unusual for any company to offer better deals to new users to get them on board. Certainly the satellite TV companies do that. You would think that these companies would want us to stay customers and offer at least the same deal if not better to keep the service but I guess they count on us to be too lazy to cancel and go somewhere else. Guess again.

I'm going to do a comparison/throughput test, moving the HT502 from 'behind' my router to 'in front of' the router.
I've had a couple of glitches here and there, all professionally and quickly resolved by their outstanding support team (thanks Byran and Justin!) - but I get the feeling that they're doing some 'custom' things that shouldn't be necessary if the device is in their preferred 'after the modem and before your router/network' configuration.
