Hi, I'm considering a change from my current webhost, and am considering hostrocket, but....

Is php5 available on shared hosting?

Or preferably, is BOTH php4 and php5 available on a shared hosting plan? Currently, I'm actually using both on my existing site with php4 used primarily, but with php5 being used in certain areas via .htaccess

Here is the thing. First if you have sales questions you should direct them towards sales ( http://www.hostrocket.com/contact.html ).

However, from what I have heard all of the servers are being upgraded to PHP5 with SuExec. They don't have multiple versions running and it really isn't recommend outside of a testing environment. Most PHP4 scripts work with PHP5, and there are many that only need minor modification to work.

Does anybody know when all the servers will be upgraded to PHP5? They said they would start last November, is it really taking more than 4 months? (I'm not trying to be sarcastic here... I really don't know how many servers they have or how long it will take)

I have no idea how long it will take, but I can understand why it is taking so long. There are a lot of people using scripts on their website that are not compatible with PHP5, including some that were in Fantastico. So they are probably going through and contacting customers whose sites will be affected before making all of the upgrades.

hi guys, i've read some of the topics regarding the upgrade to php5, two of which are in http://forums.hostrocket.com/showthread.php?t=17730 and in http://forums.hostrocket.com/showthread.php?t=12395. there are also polls about php5 in http://forums.hostrocket.com/showthread.php?t=17762 and http://forums.hostrocket.com/showthread.php?t=12607 but AFAWK most concern that falls on us is will they roll out php5 on the shared servers. i'm still wondering about the amount of feedback HR needs for php to be upgraded. HRTimothy mentioned that the upgrade decision partly depends on how much community feedback presses for php5 upgrade. will it be possible to get a realistic amount of 'signatures' from our user base that we really need php5 up and running? or get a running demographics from HR about the number of feedbacks they've received for php5? thanks guys.

The threads you're quoting above are *very* old, and should be disregarded. All servers will be upgraded soon, and there will be little need for debate or pleas for upgrade attention ;)

Stay tuned for updates, as Paul or I will post in the announcement forum when an upgrade is coming for a particular server.
