Contrary to the instructions all over the web for the ac211n, if you're having trouble with inbound calls set "out of band signals" to NONE.

Just configed my mother's ac211n today and works great!

Hope this helps someone!

Does changing this affect the ability to use automated phone systems. For example, when you call the credit card company and a recorded message comes up asking you to press 1 for ...

I have tried this setting both ways and often times inbound calls just go straight to voicemail, no ring.

I have tried different servers and it is the same. (sometimes inbound works and sometimes not).

Any fixes for this issue?

Is your AC-211 before or after a router on your LAN?

VT's signaling is done "inband" which means in the same band as the voice traffic. This includes DTMF signals or "touch tones" 8233 is an "out of band" protocol in which signals are carried in packets in a separate channel from voice.

Edit: this is an obvious question, but did you reboot your ATA after each change to the settings?

Looks like I'll be disabling the out of band DTMF in my AC-211. I'm not sure why the instructions out there said to change that. It seems clear that in all the other devices out there on VT like PAP2 and Asterick, people say the VT is inband DTMF.

after, but router is allowing all traffic (I can see in logs)

So it's in the DMZ (at least just for troubleshooting)?

Yes, I have tried both ways.

And yes to the earlier reply about rebooting after changes.

What happens if you do continuous pings to the SIP server? "ping -t <enter server name>" from windows. Any timeouts or long round trip times?

It sounds like VT thinks it can't reach your AC-211 sometimes.

Did you remove authentication user name? It's not required.

You could try putting in front of router since you've tried with and w/o DMZ. You could also try the STUN Server option with the FWD Stun server.

Ping is good to all servers I tried with 0 percent loss and low latency. The device seems to be working fine now with no changes. Perhaps a hiccup on ViaTalk side or maybe it is just being intermittent again...

Either way, I think I will stop troubleshooting and wait (hopefully) that my new equipment may be sent out in the next few days. (Not holding my breath though)
