Hi

I am on the new server.

I am thinking of reselling HostRocket services and I know they do not offer a reseller package. What I was wondering is:
Am I allowed to resell my subdomains?

If I am allowed to do this:
What do I get with a free subdomain on the new control panel (transfer, space, features etc.)?
What upgrades are available?
Can I buy additional subdomain accounts if I need to?
Can I buy extra FTP logins for these accounts?

Thanks for your help

Subdomains just point to the corresponding directory.

For instance, I have a subdomain 'files.johnmiller2004.com'. Which points to http://www.johnmiller2004.com/files.

I was going to ask this question.
Cause if you sold them, the people you are hosting can't have access to your site if you make them a FTP account which only goes into the subdomain folder or up.

I'm pretty sure you can get more subdomains and more FTP accounts, but you have to pay more per month.

hi

can we host multiple domains or we have to take new accounts for each domain we want to host ?

You can host multiple domains for around $5/month or so. (Support if i'm wrong, correct me) :)

what happened to that link where you could buy an actual re-seller package with like 20 domain pointers or what ever it was ?

when you setup an ftp account, it also points the ftp client to the corresponding directory in your public_html folder, so I would think you can setup a subdomain, then setup an ftp account with the same name and it should function dually.

I was under the impression that when you set up an FTP account. The FTP has to be named the same as the folder that you are giving permission to use..... Would that not mean that the FTP user could only access that folder only, unless U give your password out. ???

Alot of us have been waiting alot longer than six months for the reseller to return. I've personally been waiting about 15 months. :(

wrong ! anybody can access the ftp folder from your public html. so if you had mom setup as an account, you could point your browser to: yourdomain.com/mom/ and there it is, and they can leech while the leeching is good, or until you run out of bandwidth :)

Ok... there's some misconceptions going on here...

Here's how it works:

you have a subdomain called "xyz" set up and you now want to set up an FTP account for this.

The FTP setup section will attempt to make a folder with the same name as the user name you are trying to add to FTP unless the folder is already there. Which means that you will want to make the user name "xyz". If you make it something else, say "yxz", then there will now be a folder in your public_html folder called "yxz".

Also, this means that you do not actually have to have a subdomain set up to have ftp access to a particular folder. You just need a folder in your public_html folder.

Ok, so now you have an ftp account who's user name is "xyz@yourdomain.com". When they log in, they only access the files in the "xyz" folder of your public_html folder. They can not access anywhere else.

But, because the "xyz" folder is in the public_html folder, that means that anybody can go to http://xyz.yourdomain.com or http://www.yourdomain.com/xyz and see what you're allowing them to see (which is everything by default if you don't have an index.html page in there).

So.. to make a long story short, tlp, you're right. If you create an additional ftp account, that user can only access those files and not anybody elses... Mr. Popularity misunderstood what you were asking...

And Mr. Popularity, you are correct to an extent, but... if they don't know the names in the first place, they can't access the files. And he wasn't wanting to set it up as an ftp server persay, but just to use for upping the files for their web site.

Plus, anybody can leech off of your public_html folder as it is... Just might take a while is all... lol
