I know the website says 20 days to port a number but since our numbers aren't held by a dinosaur telco I was hoping this would take a few days.

Can someone confirm? If not I'm going to packet8 since they are claiming quick number ports.

While you're waiting for your local number port, log into sunrocket.com and setup call forwarding to your new ViaTalk number.

And FYI.. my port is scheduled for 7/31. A full 2 weeks after ViaTalk got my request. :-( I hope forwarding holds up until then

According to CNN, SR customers are being ported to Packet 8 service as quickly as possible. There is going to be an email from them soon, but in the interim we have service.

Refund request. Paid $89 and some change. This extra was for next day Service. six days is a long way from one day. I might have gone for three days but thats just a little to much to pay to have phone activated. I really wanted to pay for the year but your sign up just gave the monthly option. So I decided to cancel my account and if you would please refund my money back to my credit card company. They also thought it would be best being as waiting on the telephone for over a hour and half. Everytime to try to get a hold of anyone on the phone or your chat service your number 101. If something does happen to your service I don't think you would make it easy on the customer to get any help with a reasonable amount of time to fix any phone./

If nothing was delivered and no serice was provided you could dispute it with your credit card company.

You could mention this to customer service if you can actually get ahold of them before you do it. It costs like $30 + charge from the merchants bank for chargebacks. It would be better for them to refund you the money than have to refund the money with a chargeback fee and a mark on their merchant record.

Please PM me your first and last name. I think we should be able to resolve this without having to resort to a charge back.

When someone comes from a really bad experience (Sunrocket) to a new company (Viatalk) it's very important that the new company recognize this fact. Of course when it may be thousands of people moving over it's going to create problems. The worst single thing a company like Viatalk can do at this time is fail to give timely honest assessments of delivery times etc. I have had a sales ticket open since last Friday with no response. I will wait another day or so for an answer. If I don't hear back then I will contact Amex and cancel with Viatalk. I can't afford another Sunrock-type experience.

I think it's very, very important for people to acknowledge that we're in the great Wild West of telecom, it's not your grandma's phone company, and that anything can happen.

You're right--if you can't afford to lose, you can't afford to gamble. Some people need to be back on basic wireline phone service, and acknowledge that they can't afford to play in the voip dotcom world. As much as they'd like to have the fancy features and save the money and play in the sandbox, they can't afford to take the chance on losing.

I like the WWW metaphor. Just like the Colt .45 back then, my Amex card is 'the great equalizer' of today. :D

The last VOIP provider standing in the end will be providing the best service, the best quality with the best price. If a provider can't provide these, they will follow Sunrocket.

The basic business rules of success has a company growing to keep up with the demand of additional customers while providing topnotch service and support to existing customers. If Viatalk doesn't correct the path they are heading down, they will be nothing more than a small time company that followed the path of Sunrocket.

Some companies fail to learn this, or just don't care. Hopefully, Viatalk isn't one of them.

Nope it'll be the one with the most money behind it.

Sunrocket for me was the best quality and price of the four or five VOIP providers I had tried so far ...

Point taken, although, it wouldn't make sense for a provider to bring in more money than they were making from their VOIP operations, unless their goal was to become a monopoly.

Sunrocket was a good company, that did an outstanding job of hiding their shortcomings. It will be some time before we find out what really happened at Sunrocket. (if ever). Maximum wait on hold I had with them for a service call was 1-1/2 minutes. No personal complaints from me about Sunrocket except how they handled themselves the last month of their business. Not even their employees knew what was going on.

I signed up on 7/19 still only have order received - I didn't pay for any faster service after reading the blogs. Has anyone that signed up on the 19th received any movement on their order?

I am quite disappointed with the service. I have used Vonage in the past and have been bitten by Sunrocket as well. I switched to viatalk and was able to activate my account over the phone (took two hours). I have a support ticket pending for a week now. I have no info on my number porting status. Calling the support line gives me a busy tone. This has been going on for 2 days now. If this does not get resolved today, I am cancelling my service and filing a chargeback with amex. I have had enough already.

Atleast vonage was predictable.

I signed up on the 19th. I was invoiced on 7/26 with my number porting scheduled within the next 20 days. I still don't have service of any kind; no equipment, no VT phone number, nada...but the billing email received from VT is at least encouraging that something is happening with my account...by the way, it looks like they aren't updating the website, for me it still shows order placed...

Although their invoice email mentions to login to view your billing information, no login information is sent with the email. I verified the charge on my CC, it was $238.00. Since I signup for two lines for $199, no equipment fee, free shipping, etc...I think there is an activation fee in there somewhere with some Federal, State and Local taxes but I don't know what the breakdown of charges are....until I can view my billing account.

****UPDATE****

I received my welcome email today from VT and my adapter is being shipped. While I wait for my new adapter I configured my SR Gizmo (thanks by the way to VT support for helping me unlock my gizmo). I logged into SR and forwarded my calls from my old number to my new one. Everything is working...now just waiting for the porting to go thru...

That's my biggest complaint. No invoice no nothing. What the heck am I getting charged?! Well, I just don't get it. Why does it take 5 days for some and 22 days for others? Don't tell me its priority shipping because its still the same thing for them. Some are sooner, some are later. It wasn't any better with VT 5 months ago either. Oh well, I guess some are just born lucky...

Well today I got home and my number has ported over :D

I checked my computer and I had received an email from VT advising me that my number ported with instructions on how to upload the new settings. My port started on July 26 and today is Aug 9 for a total of 11 business days!!!

Considering it took 43 business days to port from Time Warner to SunRocket this was pretty darn good!!!

Thank you VT

Hi there:

Hey.. I'm a SunRocket has been, too, and I'm now trying to unlock my gizmo. I was able to unlock the gizmo up until a few days ago, but SunRocket has since deactivated the asterik capability; thus disabling the ability to enter the sequence of numbers that othewise follows.

It seems that maybe you have an undated method possibly - would you please share that with me?

Sincerely and Thank you - Jen

I followed these instructions sent by a tech at VT:

http://nkishore.com/2007/07/20/confi...voip-provider/

The catch was to disconnect the gizmo before my admin password got changed by someone other than SR.
