Is an adapter needed to setup line?

I am a soon to be SR convertee. Unfortunately, I am not home and able to setup a new device. Can I initialize and configure my account without having the VT adapter in place? I'll take calls on my cell for now but want to get my number ported and all the prep work going now.

once you get your number and password, you can log in to the control panel and set everything up.

If you already have your phone number, you could start using it without an ATA device. Check your billings account for softphone setup. I use Xlite away from the house from my assigned number routinely.
