Hi, I'm Slikk, and I'm a SR casualty. <VT Crowd welcomes with "Hi, Slikk!">

That's step one, I guess. The rest will no-doubt follow with VT questions about this or that. If anyone wants to be my sponsor that I can call 24/7, let me know :)

Looking forward to getting my VT gear and ported number. Well, the gear, anyway, heheh.

Ciao...

Once you get your ATA start testing. Call anyone and everyone like you did with your SR services. We can advise you of issues that you might encounter. I am not using an ATA from VT due to the fact that they provision the ATA. Meaning if any changes has to be done their tech support has to do it on their end.

Myself and some others on here are "BYOD" aka Bring Your Own Device. We prefer it this way so we can play with new toys and learn about the VoIP technology. But all in all we all have the same tech questions. So test your ATA and feel free to ask. We are here to assist each other and make VT and your VoIP experience a great one.:D

I am a double SR casualty. I began working for them in July 2006. I went to work today and noticed on pulling into the parking lot how few cars there were. I began to see the writing on the wall fairly soon after starting to work there. Now I am unemployed and cannot make outgoing calls. But it is a relief in the sense that the work environment there had become so bad, except for those all too many starry eyed employees and managers who believed that SunRocket had a long and bright future.

I will say that I had used SR service since December of last year and had no complaints. I attribute part of that using AT&T DSL, and a Linksys SPA 2102 ATA device.

I am now looking to using Via:Talk and expecting many good things from them.

Truly amazing how in a few short months a highly rated Voip goes bust with no notice. I thought my broadband service was acting up. After several attempts at rebooting my Gizmo, the light went on. I searched the net and found a posting about them shutting down today, with the hopes that someone might bail them out tomorrow.

Sorry, can't wait, and via:talk has no debt and other ancilary businesses to keep operational

I had no idea they were having issues...once they redid the website I thought that was a positive sign. Then I got an email from them a couple of hours ago about shutting down. Viatalk was actually one of their recommendations. Have looked at them, skype, and vonage, and I am verrrry impressed with viatalk with what I have read on DSLReports and seen on the website. Had I heard of you guys before this, i probably would have switched anyways.

I was once a SR customer back in 2004. Reason I left them is because their Tech support took too long to get back to me and when they spoke it sounded like they knew nothing I was talking about.

PS: I took my number that SR gave me when I signed up.:D

Heat305,
You said you are BYOD. Which devices can we use? Can i use the sunrocket gizmo?

I have my gizmo wired into my house. The DSL line goes to the modem, then gizmo, then to the central distro and to all other jacks. All phone lines work off it. Can i do that with the ATA or BYOD?

SR casualty here too... and kinda double as well. Didn't work for SR but referred wife's grandmother to SR. So much for my good advice! :D Thankfully, GM is a good sport and willing to switch to via:talk with us. Hope, this will last!

Few things I noticed about v:t's feature list:
1. They don't seem to have a problem with letting us utilize other SIP-enabled devices. That's really good news for asterisk junkies... anybody experience with that?
2. Unlike SR's feature set: v:t seems to have "network unavailable forward". if power was out or ISP down fowarding didn't work. So, that's great news right there!
3. Last -- but certainly not least!! -- they offer soft phone as part of the whole deal. Vonage charges extra for that!

I'm excited and hope that my great first impressions will be validated by awsome service.

Wow. I've been having trouble with dropouts of SR service the last few weeks, with no help from them. ("It's your ISP's fault!") So I started looking around and now find that they are going down as a company! Sheesh!

Can I keep their gizmo? Is it a valid BYOD?

Thanx!

As long as it supports SIP and it is unlocked from SR it should work. I sent mine back when I canecled back in 2004. I currently use Linksys brand ATAs. We have knowledgeable people on the board. Here is a link so you can see the ATA I am using [SPA-3102] and where I purchased mine. It doesn't have to be the same model but as long as it says it supports SIP then you good to go. I am not saying you have to go out and purchase one. If your ATA is not locked to SR I am sure you can use it with VT. http://store.voxilla.com/voip-categories/voip-analog-adapters-ata/

HEAT305,

How do I find out if the gizmo is locked to SR? Can it be unlocked?

Here is the manual for one of Innomedia's Gizmo. If you can access the VoIP section without a pwd then it is unlocked. Support however will be limited with tech support as they don't use Innomedias products. VT uses more of the Linksys brand ATAs.

Can the SR Linksys ATA be unlocked?

Try re-setting it and see if you can access the VoIP part of it. If you can then your in. If you can't that means it is Administratively locked out by SR still. I am not sure if you will be able to get in touch with SR tech support to give you the pwd to unlock it. If not try googling it online. You can visit the following forums below to see if there are other SR customers that have successfully unlocked their ATA aka Analog Telephone Adapter. Hope this helps. By the way what is the model of your ATA? It should be listed below the ATA.

Another SR casualty. People actually got emails? I've been battling connectivity issues for two weeks now, but since I also had a hard landline issue, I've been thinking it was my DSL modem or line.

I received my signup email for ViaTalk. Is there a separate Welcome to Viatalk email? I don't want to call them re: contract buyout until the time is right.

Thanks for the posts on the Innomedia ATA manual, I'll see if I can get to the appropriate section and use it. I do hope ViaTalk is able to port my SR number, ATT CallVantage said SR had not 'released' the number yet.

From Sunrocket Forum...
"First, I apologize for a broadcast email to all users since a lot of you are well aware of the issue currently at hand. I think there are a few instances that deserve a mass email and at the risk of you losing your home phone service tonight permanently is a major reason. In summary, SunRocket has been on its death bed for a few months now and officially has closed its doors (see links below). Employees from the MO and VA offices apparently are all without jobs so there isn't anyone to notify you of the end of service. At risk of you losing you losing dial tone and the ability to dial 911, I suggest you find an alternative provider. The most comparable provider is ViaTalk (referral link: http://www.myreferer.com/mydb/ ?M=viatalk&ID=vtf&L=10) who is currently offering a 1 year buyout of your existing SunRocket phone service and a $199 year rate for 2 lines. Another couple alternative are the Gizmo Project ( http://www.gizmoproject.com) and Skype ( http://www.skype.com) which offer by the minute plans. Many SunRocket users are currently discussing options, contracts, refunds, etc. on the site. Feel free to join in the discussion. You can go here and read the SR forums and see how some SR customers are already up and running with VT. It will happen for all. I know every1 wants their phone service up and running, but SR was the main cause of this issue. Give VT a chance guys. The link is below.

Hi there fellow Sundowners: I was just wondering if my "Gizmo" will work with VT. My wife was one of the employees working at a call center when they closed. She thought something was wrong when they stopped processing refunds. They refused to give customers credit 2 weeks before they closed but lead their customers to believe they were in process.

what can i do about refund from sr

jamesmick
07-18-2007, 12:56 AM
Your best bet for a refund is likely going to be to contact your credit card company directly. I called mine today and when I started describing the situation the agent asked me "where you using sunrocket?" Apparently more than a few people are calling about it.

I placed my order today and am hoping to have the switch made official here shortly. I can't wait!

Hopefully via:talk will not do the same thing as SR. If they run into trouble at least inform the customers base they have. At least they deserve it.

I am also a SR casualty. I just signed up with Viatalk withthe BYOD package buyout offer.

I found the info on unlocking here:
http://gizmopasswords.blogspot.com/

scroll down to "Innomedia Gizmo bricked? Try this!"

It works! I unlocked mine in just a few minutes.

I will definitely miss SR - never had any issues (other than crappy tech Support in the beginning) with any of the numbers over the last 15 months.
I hope Viatalk can provide the same level of "Rock Solid" service.

I signed up for a year deal at sunrocket a little over a month ago. The service was good until two days ago when everything went downhill. I found out about the shut down. I scrambled looking for alternatives and found Viatalk. Signed up but still waiting for the next step in my order. Right now its still on "order placed" hope to have that moving soon.
I really hope Viatalk works out. I do not want to go to vonage and cant stand the thought of going back to verizon.

JDazell
07-18-2007, 10:21 PM
Agreed ... there is no way that I will go to Vonage or my blood sucking Cable Provider. I called my Cable Company (mind you I already have just about everything including HD), just before I signed up with ViaTalk, for unlimited calls and 7 measley options (standard stuff like CID) over $310/yr. WOW !!!

Im hoping that Viatalk can tread water well because I believe that a majority of the SR victims will SLAM Viatalk and bury their Customer Support for days if not weeks to come. If they can pull this off (processing all of the SR refugees in a reasonable time frame) then, I'll feel much more comfortable in my choice of ViaTalk

:D.

How long did it take for you to receive your new number and the information that I need so that I can use the SR gizmo?

Unlock Instructions for Sun Rocket SIPs:

Here are the unlock instructions I found and tested successfully. They worked for me exactly as written, on my Innomedia model Gizmo. The login for mine was "user" and the password was "welcome" as given below.

To Unlock Gizmo & use it with any other provider:

Every Penny counts… As SunRocket is gone, at least use Gizmo some where else after unlocking it and save money.

You can Follow instructions listed here to unlock your gizzmo to use on other VOIP providers (might not work for all Sunrocket adaptors):

a) Disconnect to WAN i.e. Unplug cable from Gizmo WAN port (i.e. no Internet)

b) With the PC connected to Gizmo LAN port, Go to http://192.168.251.1 and Login to it using user Id

First try User Id: Admin & Password: 7UprUtew

If this is not working then try User ID: "user" & password: "welcome"

c) Now Cut and Paste the following url and press enter to Restore factory default
http://192.168.251.1/restore2.ssi

After about 15 seconds you should see a message about reset to defaults. Wait another 30-45 seconds.
Now close browser window. At this point your Gizmo should be in the same state as when SunRocket first shipped it to you.

d) Open a new browser window, go to

http://192.168.251.1/Voice_adminPage.htm (Do not open Gizmo home page first).

When prompted for user and password, Enter

User Id: admin & Password: slapshot (Valid for V3.0.77, V3.0.75)

e) Now Disable Provisioning, Go to
Menu –> IP Network —> Provisioning Setting and Uncheck Enable Provisioning
Click Save & Reboot. Click OK to warning.

At this point of time, your Gizmo should be unlocked and ready to be used with any service.

Best to all,

From another SunRocket casualty.

Just my Opinion - Sunrocket was the best of them. I had 6 months of flawless service from Sunrocket. I can't say enough good about their service and quality. :redfaced: I'm of the opinion that SunRocket was imploded by mechanism of evil minions friendly to the Illuminati and their New World "Odor". I read today that AOL executives were brought in. AOL being thick as thieves with the NWO, and such mafia type evil minions only comes to destroy, and this time their target was the up and coming upstart company "SunRocket", who's original visionaries weren't towing the line for them, so they undermined, infiltrated and imploded the company.

With all this talk about which voip provider is better alternative, I decided to try Onesuite SuiteAdvantage.

Honestly speaking I don't want to go with a stand alone voip anymore, so Viatalk and Vonage is out of the question. Right now, my family was so affected with this SunRocket shutting down that they swear they don't want another voip as our primary phone service.

It took me a whole day to explain to them that Onesuite.com isn't a voip provider but a prepaid long distance phone card with voip feature for $2.95 monthly fee. We will still get a land line (maybe next week) but for the meantime we are making calls thru a computer via Onesuite voip. We got a temporary number too while waiting for our SR number to be ported.

At the end of the day, we choose what we think is best for us and different people has different needs.

I'm Still waiting. I still can't log in to my account.

My CC has been charged, a temporary # has been assigned to me.

I can call that # and leave a message, but I still CAN'T Log In.

I don't know when my equipment will be shipped.

If I could get the information I need to set up my SR Gismo I would do it Now.

Can Anyone Help Me?
