View Full Version : X-Ten timeout issues - SJPhone

(oops I meant X-Lite, not x-ten!) So I have successfully used X-Lite for quite some time, and really like it, but something changed in their recent upgrade which made it so that I can only sometimes use it, depending on what network I'm on...

I can dial out , but if I want to register and receive calls, it gives an Error 408 timeout... I've looked on the Counterpath forums and this is a larger issue than just for me. People are going back to version 2 of x-lite to get it to work. That one crashes every time I end a call.

anyway, I've moved to SJphone because I need to be able to receive an important call on my home phone # today, but this is an issue worth delving into!

Apparently putting in a DNS in the x-lite options is supposed to help, but wouldn't that have to be with your current ISP? What about if you are traveling (like I am now) - and have no idea what the DNS is on the current wi-fi router I'm using?

anyone else in the same boat?

thanks
c

P.s. I solved this by simply adding a DNS IP address (i found randomly with google) into the x-lite advanced options and it now works fine...
strange!

clarkovsaturn - I'm happy to see a post on someone using xlite in a manner similar to me; although I havent used it very often in the field of fire. I want my home number when on the road, usually looking for a particular call. Plus the voice quality beats the dang cell. As a test and confidence builder, I use it at home for an evening maybe once a month. It has always works well; however, I ran into the situation where my incoming will ping pong between my home adapter and the xlite. Beleive I have read that this is because which ever adapter registers last gets the inbound and it will ping pong back and forth if you keep the xlite up for an extended period. I have found that when away, I will remotely log onto the home adapter and disable Line 1 and this keeps the inbound coming into xlite with no inturptions. When done I remotely enable Line 1. On ocassion, if I want to just make a short outgoing call I will not turn off the line at home. Does this play with your experience with xlite on vt.
