View Full Version : Call drop out problem

I am experiencing call drop out / silence gaps pretty regularly - people on the other end say they don't hear me for what appears to be 2 or 3 seconds at a time, in the middle of a call. Sometimes this happens more than once during a call. A few times it got so bad, I had to hang-up and redial. I don't have that problem on my end - at least not that I can detect.

I do not believe the problem to be with my internet connection. I have Verizon FiOS with 2 Mb/s upstream. Plenty of bandwidth. And it has been extremely reliable. Haven't had a single outage in the last 6 months that I have had it.

Any others experiencing this same problem? Any solutions/suggestions? Any configuration issue?

Sounds like an upstream network problem to me.

mmm, it could very well be related to your router. Make sure nothing else is using that 2mb, and consider putting in QoS controls...

It is most likely a firewall issue. Either put the ATA in the DMZ and set a USER password for it, or forward these ports in your router to the ATA's ip address:

69 UDP
5060-5061 UDP
10000-20000 UDP or check the SIP Tab of your adapter and forward the range of ports listed in RTP Port MIN. and RTP Port MAX. (Default is 16384 - 16482 UDP)

You may also want to reserve a specific IP address for you ATA as well (If your router supports this function)

Thanks Brian188 - except for the 69port, other things were already setup. I will give this a try.

Port 69 is only used for provisioning your ATA.

yeah port 69 will unlikely help with call quality. So if the ports were already open, were they forwarded to the right IP address? Sometimes the PAP2's Address may change, causing the ports to be open but to the wrong device. If this is what happened you will need to reserve an ip for the pap2 or set up a static ip for it.

What kind of router do you have in the network?
