View Full Version : Static on Phone-In Menu

When I call my number and hit the "*" key to access the phone-operated menu (for dial-in, dial-out) the call quality becomes very staticy. All other calls are fine.
Has anyone else noticed this?

While normal VT phone service is great, some things like calling CS or VM is staticy. Another thread mentioned CS is using cordless WI-Fi phones that may account for the noise when calling CS (made me nervous about what my quality would be.) For VM, some are blaming the VM server.
At least normal calls are clear.

I have the same issue.. the menus have clicking sounds, which is annoying, but calls are clear. Not sure if there's anything that can be done about that.
I'm assume they're using a high compression ratio when connecting with menus, which would degrade the sound quality.

Thanks. Especially with CS you'd think they'd want the best quality. But VM should be a higher quality too.

I would submit a ticket to VT. It's nice to confirm in this forum if this is being experienced by others. But once that is confirmed, tickets from those that are experiencing the issue should be submitted to VT (as VT does not treat forum postings as tickets). ;)

I agree, I have static when calling VM. My unavailable message sounds like I was recording it via a tin cup and string. Re-recording does nothing to improve it. Very "low budget" sounding if you ask me. I'll be glad when they upgrade the VM system!

I can't say that I've experienced static. But I have experienced poor quality voice mail unavailable recordings. But even those vary depending on the time or day I record the message.

Bubbanc: Have you tried recording at different times of the day.. different days even. Might be worth the extra effort just to get a decent recording for your unavailable message.

I have to say that I hardly ever experience these issues myself. Now, I mostly check my vmail through e-mail for starters. The sound quality of those has been fine. I think I remember a couple times when the vmail recording on an e-mailed vmail did not sound completely clear to me. But as I said, that hardly ever occurs (knock on wood).

My wife normally calls into the VT vmail...and she hasn't complained about problems (I know I would hear about it if she did). When I call in for vmail myself, it normally sounds fine to me. Again, I can recall a couple times since we got service that a few calls into vmail did not sound optimal. But I believe others also experienced the same issue during those times and it turned out to be more global in nature.

Not sure this helps any...but I want you to know what my personal experience has been.

I tried calling VM just now and re-recording my unavailable message and there was no static at all (que Steely Dan's FM). I also made it a bit longer than usual to try and help cut down on the 1 second hangup voicemails. Thanks for the tip. Now to determine if this had to do with me changing any settings on my end or if this is just some common glitch. I believe the only thing I've done is change my RTP Packet Size from .030 to .020 and Jitter to Low (something I read here: http://www.dslreports.com/forum/remark,18236145).
