You guys will all realize why it is I chose a life as a Quality Assurance professional way back before too long.

This week's bizarre problem is a funny one as usual:

Yesterday I noticed that my router had a firmware update that they claimed would address a number a things including QOS and VoIP. I installed it. My router immediately decided to take a vacation.

After several rounds with their support we got it all back up and it's fine now. HOWEVER, the phone adapter is acting strangely.

I now notice that my second line is 100% as expected. HOWEVER, the first line is doing two strange things. This is on the same adapter hooked into the same router all with the same ports forwarded as before. Both are on NY2 right now.

1) Suddenly Line 1 is taking 7-10 seconds to complete ANY call. It doesn't matter if I dial 11 digits, end with a #, etc. It just sits there like it's resting and then jumps to life. Line 2 jumps the moment I hit #.

2) If I reset the adapter, Line 2 immediately comes back online while Line 1 sits there, again for 7-10 seconds before it makes its way back and then comes up.

I remember we had an issue like this when we tried to use our own DNS servers but I don't think that's related here.

Any ideas? I called support and they noticed that Line 1 had an interdigit delay of 10 seconds while Line 2 was set to 3 seconds. That's why I noticed the delay on the adapter after a power cycle. It didn't seem that this should have anything to do with my issue....

UPDATE: Just for the hell of it I put the adapter in the DMZ. It took 25 seconds for BOTH lines to come back up. WTH?!

I also am trying to use CanYouSeeMe.org to see if it see the ports opened and it's not seeing any of the UDP ports opened. I don't get it.

The open ports won't matter with the ATA in the DMZ. But this could be related to the Dial Plan and Interdigit long timer. Post your DP and what the timer are set to for both lines.

This is an odd issue. Another thing to do is just review the settings for both lines and and see if something got changed inadvertently.

DP Line 1:

(*xx|*xxxxxxxxx|*xxxxxxxxxxxxx|*xxx|xxx|xxxx|[3469]11|0|00|[2-9]xxxxxx|1xxx[2-9]xxxxxxS0|xxxxxxxxxxxx.|011xxxxxxxxxx)

DP Line 2:

(*xx|*xxxxxxxxx|*xxxxxxxxxxxxx|*xxx|xxx|xxxx|[3469]11|0|00|[2-9]xxxxxx|1xxx[2-9]xxxxxxS0|xxxxxxxxxxxx.|011xxxxxxxxxx)

Identical (and I think default).

Interdigit Long Timer is under Regional and is set to 5.

Perhaps you need to set up static DHCP IP for your adapter and turn off the SIP ALG if it has one.

Well that is weird. Do you know how long the delay is? 3 sec, 10, etc.? Could it be that you are just not hearing the ring back tone right away? maybe missing the first one? Or are you sure the call is not connecting right away?

It's 7-10 seconds. It gets more strange. After having the problem of putting it in the DMZ, I decided to do some digging. I put in out of the DMZ and recycled again. I fully expected to be back to the first symptom. Instead both lines came up immediately.

THAT sounds like the router (which just got it's new firmware remember) might be the culprit here. I have another coming that I can give a shot once it arrives but that could be a week.

One last thought... What's the short timer set to?

That's set at 3.
