Hello.. My ViaTalk has been working fine up until this afternoon.. Just starting about two hours ago (and I haven't changed any configurations; actually, I've been out of town) - incoming calls will ring to my softphone loaded on my PC, but will not ring the main phones (the PAP attached ones).

When I shut down the softphone, nothing rings.

However, when I pick up a phone attached to the PAP2, and call my number, the softphone rings when it's up.. is that right??

My number just ported from Vonage a week and a half ago. Things had been fine after that, but these issues just started today.

I noticed in my account, even though I'm ported, my original "temporary number" is still showing up on my account - but no calls have been made or received on it since my successful port on the 6th.

Any ideas? I tried unplugging and resetting the Linksys PAP2. Still, no ring.

BTW, How does the softphone normally affect the phones attached to the ATA? If I try to make a call on the softphone while the PAP2 is in use, would that cause trouble? (Or can only one "device" be registered at once - and maybe that's the root of my problems?)

Thanks!

The softphone is steeling the registration. Only one device (ATA or softphone) can be registered. So, when you run the softphone, it gets all the incoming. If you turn off the softphone, the ATA will re-register in about an hour, but you can power cycle it to force it to register. Then calls will return to the ATA.

Ah, it takes that long.. That makes sense now. I imagine my softphone was still registered on the temporary number and that's probably why both were ringing before - I had one forwarded to the other.

Thanks.
