I have Cable into my shop. VT working fantastic. I want to get rid of our land line phone service and wireless my cable to the house (70ft. at most). I want to run my wifes computer and VT through out the house.

Currently I have a Zyxel 4 port wireless router in my shop. A mac and PC ehterneted to them along with the VT adapter and 3 handsets working great.

i plan to mount and external directional antenna to the shop pointing at the window of my wifes office.
Now, at the house I have a Airport Extreme sitting in the window. Again, 70 ft. What will I need to get the VT in the house working through this wireless set up? Can/will I need another adapter? I know disconnecting the line at teh box etc. But can multiple boxes be used so as to access multiple buildings on the same property on the same account through wireless etc...

i hope I have not confused the issue.

Thanks for you help.

Joe

I don't believe the proposed setup will work exactly as you have outlined, as you cannot have multiple devices configured with the same phone number. You would likely need to setup another account and have an ATA in each building, with different phone numbers. You could setup Call Forwarding/Simul Ring, etc if you wish.

you could use a wireless phone line extender like this.

There are a few things you could do....

first to be honest I'd consider upgrading the network setup a bit. I'm not sure the AirPort can work in client mode... Instead of a small router and airport, i'd get two Linksys WRT54GL's (note the L) and load DD-WRT or similar firmware on them. Set up one normally, the other as Client Bridge mode. Now get some nice directional antennas on both of them, should work without a hitch. But then again that's just me :)

For VT, I'd hook up some kind of server like Asterisk and get more ATAs. Set up ATAs in both buildings, and register them both to the Asterisk server (this requires the admin password to unlock your VT adapter). Now register the Asterisk server to VT.
The result will be that (depending on how you set it up) calls will ring in both places, and you can also dial by extension between buildings. You could also use many ATAs, or even IP phones, and give each room its own extension.
Asterisk doesn't need much of a computer, even a pentium2 will be fine... you may want one of the Asterisk distros that includes a GUI, such as Trixbox or AsteriskNOW. That will make it much easier to set up.

Also remember to disable the firewall on the client WRT, and set up QoS on the router one...

hoep that helps
