Faxing has been my first real disapointment with this service. I submitted another ticket to tech support, but so far they have been unable to resolve. (Yes, I have tried everything multiple times in the two fax threads below.)

Question is......has anyone tried using a credit card machine with Viatalk and what were your results? I would have to imagine that a CC machine would act the same as a fax machine, but I don't know. I will give it a try in the next few days after I see if they can resolve the fax issue.

That kind of stinks, cause if the fax and credit card machine don't work, I don't make any money. Unfortunatly that will be a show stopper for VoIP alltogether. Heck, I can't even fax the porting agreement to shut the land line off! :(

I know they make cellular fax and credit machines.....I don't get why it is so difficult here??

Have you tried adding a fax line to your account? These lines are optimized for data, not voice. You should be able to run your fax and cc machine off that line.

It sounds like you are using VT for a business, if so you should be on a business plan which includes a free fax line.

Yes I am using it for business purposes. I am on the VT1500 business account with the free fax line. I could always do the fax to email deal and it would still be cheaper per month than POTS, but I can't run the CC machine off of that.

I hope VT Support can come up with something!

Some credit card machines have a TCP/IP port that connects directly to your network, thus eliminating the need for a phone line.
Or you could use an online credit card processing site.

Hypercom says that the machine I have should work with VoIP, but there is a security issue and I need to get some kind of converter to go in between that uses SSL. I'm not sure if he means still plug into the "phone" line or go straight to the network switch. He is sending info on it though. I hope it isn't to much $$$.

Thanks for the hot tip I'll look into TCP/IP port as I don't want to my credit card processor (http://www.cardservicesales.com/) to interfere with my telephone line. I found a few online card processing sites but not sure which one to choose. Anyone have any suggestions on a good merchant processor?

Fax line just uses a different codec which might result in slightly more bandwidth usage. My problem is for occasional use it isnt worth getting it all the time. Its too bad they dont have a real solution for this.

Does your CC system allow a dialing prefix? If so, set it to *99#. If not, add *99# to the front of your dial-up phone number.
