I don't have DSL right now, but we are moving soon and may switch to DSL. I was wondering if you can setup VT to run through the jacks using dsl.

Here is my idea:
Instead of having the dsl on line 1, put it on line 2 at the network interface box.
Then, setup one dual jack in the house with only line 1 on one and only line 2 on the other. Then do the following:
line 2 ==> dsl modem ==> router ==> pap2 ==> line1
Shouldn't this give telephone through the whole house on line 1 using VT without affecting the dsl?

So is this a valid option? I'd love for someone with DSL to give it a try. Or an expert to weigh in with why this would or would not work.

It LOOKS like it should work - as long as noone cross-wired one of your house jacks. I don't have DSL (I've got Cable), but since my PAP2 is in another room, I just went ahead and ran wiring for 3 new jacks that are totally separate from my POTS line with Verizon.

Yeah, that would work just fine. I don't see any problems with this. I use to have DSL...and as long as you keep the two on different line pairs, you are good to go. Good luck.

That's the general idea. And I know it can be done, as I've done it here (although I now normally use my nice wireless phone setup, the "whole house wiring" is still in place). My setup is a little different than yours, but the idea is the same. FWIW my setup is:

Phone line comes from the NID (telco) with the DSL signals on it, into the patch panel in my basement.

From that patch panel, I have a new/direct line (with the unfiltered telco/DSL signals on it) running to a jack in my office where I have my DSL modem hooked up.

I then "filtered" (used two of those "DSL filters" in series, to make sure a good job of filtering was done) the telco signal and sent that throughout the house on the "Line 1" house wiring. That means that all "phones" (including such "phones" as my answering machine and my fax machine) can just be plugged into my "Line 1" (POTS/telco line) without any extra filtering needed (as the DSL has already been filtered out of the telco line in the basement).

The "Line 2" wiring in the house was hooked up to most of the phone jacks (in the house), but DISCONNECTED from the telco/NID! So the "Line 2" wiring is essentially one big telco "extension cord", and nothing else.

I then simply used a phone cord (and a 2-line to 2 single lines phone adapter) to plug the output of my VoIP adapter into a jack ON THE LINE 2 WIRING of my house.

Result? The DSL modem is happy, because it has a jack directly wired to the telco line without any filtering. And as for the phones in the house, they happily see (the voice portion) of my telco line as "Line 1" and my VoIP as "Line 2".
