Just got our welcome kit from VT today and took only 5 minutes to have it up & running - so far so good. The first call went through very smoothly. Can't wait to have our number ported and cut the cord to AT&T for good! My question is this - the PAP2 is hooked up to a Linksys WRT54G router. Should I make any adjustment to the router's QOS & upstream bandwidth settings to achieve better phone quality, or should I leave well enough alone and leave the QOS settings disabled? And is there any value to upgrading or running third party firmware for the TA? Sorry if these are real newbie questions that have been answered hundreds of times before, but I'm excited about being part of the VOIP "world" now and really want the best possible experience. Thanks for any help.

Below is a link to the QoS part so you can read the different recommendations. Did you sign up for the "BYOD" option? If yes, then when and if you decide to upgrade your firmware you can. If the ATA was supplied by VT then it will be locked administratively and they will do the necessary setting changes for you. Hope this helps and welcome aboard.

If you're comfortable with flashing the router, then google for tomato firmware
tomato is 3rd party firmware for the WRT54 and derivatives
It has very flexible QOS settings
It works very well. I'm using it right now:)(WRT54GL)
Make sure that your router is compatible with it first tho
Cheers,
