I decided to test my e911 service after about 10months with VT. The outcome was quite distrubing. When the 911 operator answered I explained that I was testing my VOIP service. They were not able to see my address or phone# but were atleast in the correct city. I submitted a ticket but I'm a little concerned about VT's E911 functionality if the caller is unable to speak.

taylor2767,
please keep us posted
VOIP is affordable, but 911 is very important - especially to the ones with elderly parents and young children

Yes please do come back and update us on this matter. Once I start testing my E-911 with VT I will see how many times it gives me issues as far as routing here locally. I'd say three times with incorrect routing is enough for me to look else where. Hope yours get fixed before.

Did you set your 911 information in the control panel? Address number is in a different box from the street name.

Yes. that has been set since day one under the E911 icon.

Hi all.
I haven't really checked in a beginning but tested it now.
For some reason 911 operator told me that she has a different number on her CID and no address at all. (something like "1 VOIP line").
Then later I got a call from MPD 911 asking if someone called 911 earlier. (I had problems with RTP audio). So I guess it does work right, I just don't understand where did it actually go to ...

I have researched this issue and it appears that your PSAP is not enabled to retrieve data from VoIP calls. The calls are routed similarly to cellular phone calls.
When you place a 911 call from our service your call is sent out to the closest PSAP based on your address information, generally routed by your city, state, and zip code. When the call is sent, we include your enhanced data with that call, meaning that the address, name, and phone number are sent out. In this case, the actual PSAP is not able to display the information. At this point, the only resolution would be for your PSAP to enable themselves to receive information from VoIP callers.

Who do I need to contact and the number to call.
Who do I need to contact and the number to call.
In my area, it is called "Central Dispatch" where 911 calls are routed to. In other areas it may be the police station, or some other "dispatch."
Best bet would be to call the non emergency police number, and ask them for the non emergency 911 number and contact them.

Well after doing some research via "Google" I contacted my PSAP and found out why my name and number did not appear on 911 calls. The reasoning is that the state of Ohio is not totally compliant with nomadic 911. This is the ability to locate VOIP callers and cell phone callers. Fortunately I was told that this should be in place by Jun 07.
So, for those of you who may have similar issues I would check into it with your PSAP because I'm sure other states/counties are also not ready for E911.
