I am having great success using Xlite with VT. I note that most of the posts deal with the different soft programs interfacing with the VT service. My only issue was the changes required to Xlite for DTMF signaling. However, I have seen no queries on the USB phone to Xlite interface or any other program. Almost any phone you buy is packaged for SKYPE as if it was the only game in town. I am using an XACT XVP640 phone and it works; where I can do all dialing, DTMF signaling, answer, and it rings. However it seems that the phone doesnt really interface the way it was designed. It has a clock which sets when you boot the computer, but never updates. No numbers are displayed on the phone window. I have another USB phone where only the audio works. My neighbor has a US Robodics phone packaged for SKYPE and we cant get it to work at all with XLite. In all cases they came with SKYPE and also a driver for the phone. Am I missing something or is there someplace where I can get drivers to fully interface the USB phone with Xlite.

I'm pretty sure that phone is only configured to work with Skype. You might get it to make and recieve calls but I doubt you'll get the features (software) to work.
I would recommend the D-link wifi phone, it's a little pricey but it works great anywhere there is a wireless network secured or not. No computer necessary.

Brian 188 - Thanks for reply. I have quickly looked at the Dlink and Linksys WiFi products - $$$, however my usage of this is very limited and am usually in a hotel or relatives home where I have my laptop and this method meets my needs very well. This XACT USB phone actually works very well; its just that the desplay is not working as it should. I should probably ask CounterPath which USB phone works best with their xlite product. Meanwhile, my neighbor is taking his USRobotics phone back to Wal-Mart.

I'm not real sure what your goal is here, but if just getting freed from the laptop while on the phone is what your after this might work for you:
Go and get a bluetooth stick for your laptop (less than 50.00) and get a bluetooth headset ($30 - $130 but will normally work with your cell too). These will work with Xlite, and are much less expensive then wifi. Sounds like this might be a good fit for how you want to use the soft phone, as long as it fits the budget.

Brian188 Just to close the loop. I didnt initially explain my issue very well. My issue is that with the USB phone I am using, the phone dials, and rings and audio is good, but the display on the phone unit is not working at all. I sent a query to Counterpath and asked for what their recommended usb phones were for interfacing with XLite. They pointed me to a link on their site which lists the recommended and tested USB phones. Mine is not on the list nor my neighbors which did not work at all and was taken back to WalMart. I was hopeing that I could get a driver which fully supports XLite with the particular phone I have, but doesnt appear to be available at this time.
