It would be niceto be able to:

have more than *01-*09 entries
add entry to a number from either say from "white list"/"custom caller ID" or "manually typed in" entry
"selectively" enable/disable an entry

Of course these are "nice to have" things, the "must have" thing is stability!

VT, keep up the good work!

Cheers,

I like the idea of having a two digit speed dialing method so I can associate the letters of the keypad with the person's name / speed dial number. i.e. dialing GH (44) or GC (42) for Grandma's Home or Grandma's Cell. But that would require having near 80 or 100 speed dial's available, perhaps from 20 to 99.

How good are you with dial plans? Using them you can set up (almost) infinite speed dials.

Brian188,

I'm a VOIP newbie

Anway, I realized with TV current speed dial convention and various ATA firmware, it's likely to have speed dial conflict with ATA Vertical Service codes
see http://forums.hostrocket.com/showthread.php?t=20559

with substitution (in dial plan string) more speed dials can be realized, but it is to VT advantage to make it easy for its customers (average Joes)

Yes I agree it would be to VT's benefit to offer more, and make it easy. One has to look no further than a cell phone, look how many they hold.

Anyway, your right about conflicting codes, you'd need to pick some thing that does not conflict such as *111, *112, etc. or 111, 112, 113, etc. since there are no area codes or exchanges that begin with 1 it would never be confused as 1-area code.

I assure you there is nothing above average about this Joe...:D

Having a lot of speed dials is nice. And I'm sure none of us would mind if VT added more speed dials. However, right now, there are already options for those who need more speed dials than VT directly supports on their service:

As another poster mentioned, you can pretty much have as many "speed dials" as you want, if you have your adapter's "admin passwords" (ViaTalk support will give this out, if you ask nicely) and are handy with adjusting your adapter's dial plan (well, actually you would be technically limited to the 2000 or so character size limit of the dial plan, but that's still a LOT of speed dials).

Or you could do as I do, and simply use the "speed dial feature" of whatever phone(s) you plug into your adapter. For example, I use the expandable Uniden TRU-8866 wireless (2-line) phone system in my house (one "line" of the base station plugged into my telco/POTS line, and the other plugged into my VoIP adapter). As a result, each wireless phone/handset has a large number of "phone book entries" (speed dials with full name support, just like a cell phone has). This isn't anything that ViaTalk needs to support (from the standpoint of VT I'm just dialing all the digits), this is built into my wireless home phone. And while the phones I use have more speed dials than average, IMHO most phones you buy these days have at least a few speed dials...
