I'm having a problem now as I write this. I keep trying to call my number and it goes straight to voice mail. So I call my wife's cell phone asking her if we have dial tone and she picks up the phone, gets dial tone and has no problem calling me back. I continue to dial the number but it just keeps going to voicemail. I know I'm not the only one because I just got 2 voicemails emailed to me and my wife is home and says that the phone hasnn't rung.

Is this a common problem? I just got the service this week so I am still testing it out. It was working fine since Tuesday.

First let me apologize if I may come off the wrong way. These might be some simple steps but you never know. I know I had one feature enabled in my control panel and like 4 days later realized it was turned off, I am the only one that has access to my online account at home. So sometimes I feel updates might reset some settings in here. Here goes, I have attached a screen shot of some of the settings you can try and see if anything would stop the call from coming through. Also make sure to be on the safe side that the ringer is on or the volume is up enough where you can hear it. I just called my VTline from my cell and it came through fine with number and name. Are you using a ATA from VT or did you bring your own device? Sometimes by rebooting the ATA might help it. Since we're using the internet you never know what it can be, you can only start troubleshooting until you find the real culprit. Unplug the power cable to the ATA for about a minute or two to be on the safe side and see if it helps. DO you have a phone at home that has an answering machine connected and might be turned on and set to a low ring timer? If so turn it off if you just want to use VT's voicemail feature. Do you have a router connected as well? If yes, is it connected to the ATA or is the ATA behind the router. Take a look at this posting here ( http://forums.hostrocket.com/showthread.php?t=20487 ). Try these for now and let us know how it goes. If nothing helps then call the 800 number or submit a ticket with high priority in this case. VT will be very helpful at the same time this gives you a chance to test their tech support. I have had nothing but great response from them. Good luck and please update us.

At 8:57am this morning, a call came in, went direct to voice mail and no ring. I received 3 calls since that rang the phone like normal, 1st at 9:23am EST.

This 8:57 call was the first/only call that has done that in the last 2.5 weeks and 1300 minutes of calls.

I have been amazed at how reliable and clear VT has been.

I have a static DHCP IP assigned to my PAP2T. Perhaps after a couple days, your PAP2T lost its lease on the IP and VT didn't know how to find it. Try power cycle phone adapter.

I was having the same issue until about 10am and suddenly it worked. I called VT tech support prior to this and they stated that it appear that my ATA was offline. I explained that I could make calls but incoming calls went directly to VM. I had installed a new router lastnight and thought that may have had something to do with it but apparently not. I'm on the Chicago server. What server is everyone else on that's having incoming issues?

It works now. It started working by itself at about 10:30.

I don't think its an IP renewal problem because I was able to make outbound calls. If the adapter does not have an IP address you wouldn't even get a dial tone. I agree the quality is clear but I am just posting the issues I have to see if many people are experiencing the same thing.

Rebooting my adapter probably would fix the problem, however I am at work all day and my wife is home with the kids all day. She doesn't know what the a VOIP adapter is so it would be difficult for me to have her reboot the adapter. I'd have to describe it to her and then just hope she unplugs the right device.

If restarting the adapter is something that would have to be done often then this service is probably not good for me as a primary line. With my other voip provider (optimum voice) I never had to restart it.

This is a little spooky. However, we do know that VT just started Beta testing a new feature which deals with voice mail. It allows you to send an Email to your voicemail and it converts the text to voice. Although this is remotely associated to inbound calls, it still is associated with VM and it Beta testing, which when given out to the customers can turn up some bugs.

There are so many things that it can be. I have been able to make outgoing calls even though I could not receive calls. This is when I played with a softphone that "stole" the provisioning for a while.

Anyway, maybe it was some glitch at VT this morning.

If it happens again, like every couple days, then maybe check if the adapter is changing IP's. Many router DHCP IP leases expire in the 1 day to 7 day range.

Maybe enabling some type of logging feature on your router to see how often it issues these addresses.

yes, when you get home, look at the router log and see if it shows a change this morning. my logging is on by default.
