View Full Version : Simultaneous Ring - slight change

I have simultaneous ring setup to ring my cell phone in addition to my ViaTalk line. However, if my cell phone is in an area where I'm not getting a signal or my battery dies, then all calls to my ViaTalk line immediately go to my cell phone's voicemail (my ViaTalk line doesn't even ring).
Would it be possible to change the way in which simultaneous ring works so that if numbers other than the main ViaTalk line are not available/responding, to simply ignore them and let the call continue to the ViaTalk line?
The problem is that there is no way to check to see if your cell phone is working or not.
Your voicemail automatically picks up, so according to ViaTalk, you answered the phone on your cell phone.

Another option for you would to be giving call hunt a try. Not quite what you are looking for but maybe an option.

KLH - that does make sense. I guess I should have thought through it a little more.
Brian188 - Thanks for the suggestion, but I'm not a big fan of call hunt simply because most people (at least in my experience) won't wait for more than 4 or 5 rings to hear a voicemail greeting or someone answering the phone. If no one's at home and my cell is #2 or #3 in line, the chance of me getting the call is slim.

Might give more flexibility if call hunt could be set to 5 or 10 seconds. As it is now, you can't go below 15 seconds per number.
Giving a 5 second call hunt could be pretty neat, caller id info would show up even if you didn't have enough time to answer.
Or, if simul ring were enhanced so you could specify how much time the cell could ring before just letting up to the main line. I like using my cell as a pager since I have a pre-pay. An unanswered call is free, but I get the caller id to decide what to do.

What about having simultaneous ring optionally request 'user input' from the non-viatalk phones?
For example - play a message saying "call from viatalk, press 1 to accept".
