Greetings. I have an HR dedicated server and am in need of upgrading apache, php, etc to the more secure versions.

I'm aware that cpanel has an upgrade feature but it scares me to death a one click option for this.

What are the risks in going this route? We have a vbulletin site and that is about it. A few other websites but nothing major.

We really want to close a few issues and are exploring our upgade options.

Any input is greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Patrick

Pat,

Sounds like you already have a good idea how to do it. The cPanel "Update Apache" tool is what you need to use. Just make sure you use the "Load Previous Defaults" to ensure the same modules will be compiled in. I would not recommend in making the leap between PHP MAJOR versions, so if your currently using the 4.x tree, just select the latest version of the 4.x tree.

The compile will take a few minutes, but if all goes well (and it usually does) you will have an updated apache!.

Of course, if you run into any problems please feel free to submit a trouble ticket so our techs can provide some help if needed.

Good Luck!
