If anyone can assist, I currently use Vonage Voice over IP and am using a Lynksis Model PAP2 Adapter. Via Talk rep indicated that most companies "LOCK" their adapters so they can not be used with other VOIP systems. I purchased the adapter originally from Best Buy and activated it thru Vonage. Does anyone know if this is a "LOCKED" device, or can I simply switch it over and use it on the Via Talk System when I start my account with them. Thanks for any assistance.

It's locked.
All vonage devices are locked.

It sure is locked, but PAP2 can be unlocked easily. (one reason Vonage doesn't use them anymore) It may be a violation of forum rules to post how to here, so I won't. But if you search dslreports.com you'll find how. The way I look at you bought it you should be able to use it how ever you want, right?

Determine what firmware version you have first on your PAP2 from vonage... some don't even allow you to log in. If you have a later firmware version, call Vonage and ask them to "roll back" your firmware upgrade b/c it is giving you "problems". They will then roll back your firmware to earlier versions that will allow you to login. Some older PAP2's may still have the older firmware, but likely Vonage has upgraded the firmware. This gives you the excuse to say that it is giving you problems.

From there, you may be able to log in to your PAP2. This is what i had to do. I used the DSL reports article to log in to the PAP after downloading some "patches" . The first thing you will want to do once you get into the PAP2 is turn off provisioning. You now "own" the piece of equipment you bought. When you turn off provisioning you can say to yourself "keep your dirty hands off my equipment!" :-):)

I like that ViaTalk don't get into your equipment and lock it. Once you have the BYOD set up with ViaTalk, you will need to change a couple of values (i.e., DTMF to inband, etc.).

It is very possible to unlock just about any Vonage device that is out there, and was made by LinkSys or D-Link. I'm using a LinkSys RTP-300 which I had in my Vonage days. Vonage cripples their firmware, but with the right software (namely CYT v4.6), it can be done quite easily. The discussions on DSL Report (now called Broadband Reports) are the best place to gather your tools of the trade, and get good advice. Take it from a Premium member on Broadband Reports... it can be done. If anyone needs help, please e-mail, PM, or IM (with MSN Messenger) me, and I'll be more than happy to help.
