I have replaced all of my telco service with VIA Talk and it is great. One problem is that my Directv recievers cannot connect with Diectv servers. It dials, calls and seems to fail while doing the modem negotiation. I emailed tech support and they suggested I install a DSL filter. I did that, and still will not connect. Any ideas?

I also cannot get mine to work. I tried different things that were posted so far with no success.

When I had Callvantage, I experienced the same problem. I found through many forums that the real solution was in putting an external modem connected to the DirecTV receiver and plugged in the port.

The problem is not with ViaTalk but with the communications and how the call does not adjust or downgrade the call to a lower baud rate.

Go to http://www.weaknees.com/. This is where I ordered my External Modem. Once I hooked it up, there was no problem at all.

I also found the following: with CallVantage, you had the option, you could set the line to act as a fax line which would require the baud rate adjustments. But since I no longer have DirecTV, I have no need to do this.

Just a solution I found which worked for me.

Many online tools tell you to send some commands to the modem, pre-dial, to change the modem speed. I tried many remedies listed online where the codes should be entered in the dial prefix box. Those did not work for me, at all. I finally gave up and called DirecTV. They were able to quickly help by providing me the following config in the dial properties section:

Go into your dial properties view on your SAT-T60 and enter the following numbers in the different prefix boxes (i did not believe the guy that these would work until I saw it with my own eyes):

Dial Prefix: 12122773895 (this is so you can force it to dial a NYC number to get the most updated listing of numbers).

Call Waiting Prefix: *99,,*79,,#034

Dial Type: Tone Dialing

Line busy detection: Off
Dial tone detection: Off

The 1st time it didnt work then i tested it again and it took and now all is good.
