I have been a HostRocket customer for several years and switched from Bell South to ViaTalk in the last few months because I was getting ready to stop working and was intrigued by being able to save over $60/month.
Signup was painless and a few weeks later, I got a notice that my phone number was ported, so I followed the instructions about disconnecting the "umbilical cord" to Ma Bell, etc.
I have a Linksys wireless router WRT54GX2 and had to call a couple of times because I kept getting choppy audio every time one of the computers on the local network (4 total) rebooted. First time it happened, I got an IP conflict between the adapter and the laptop in the same room, so I assigned static IPs to all the PCs. After that, every time it happened, even though I had static IPs set up for everything AND had the DMZ set up for the adapter's IP, it would re-assign the adapter's IP address and I had to call customer service to do whatever they do to re-route the signal.
The last time I called, the only way we could get it to work was bypassing the wireless router and going directly into the phone (which wasn't acceptable since I needed the cable signal for my wireless network and there was no splitter RS232 off the cable modem) so I decided to call Linksys instead, figuring they SHOULD be able to make their two pieces of equipment COOPERATE.
After nearly an hour of dancing around with the generalist, they finally routed me to their how-to-get-the-VOIP-adapter-to-play-well-with-the-wireless-router expert and he was able to get me rocking and rolling in about 15 minutes and I haven't had a problem since.
We did go ahead and change my DHCP assignments in the router to start at 192.168.1.101 instead of 100, the address that had been assigned to the adapter that instance. Since then, my Linksys Easy Advisor indicates that although adapter has magically moved to 101, it's still working. I no longer need to tweak the DMZ or QoS in the wireless router's config either. I did reset all the other PCs to dynamic IP assignment and haven't run into any issues in nearly a month even though we've had a couple unplanned power outages causing mass reboots...
Only odd thing is that I can no longer get to the adapter's config by placing its IP address in the URL box - maybe it's been locked out because I'm one of those "too nosy for their own good" clients...
