I came across ViaTalk after researching VoIP providers for my Asterisk PBX. I litterally went through about 6 providers in two months. All said they supported Asterisk but when it came down to the wire, most didn't support it fully and worse - most didn't even want to get involved.

I have 4x lines with ViaTalk for a residential setup. It's totally OTT for what we need but I have teenagers who 'have to have' their own direct number and line. It's a small price to pay for my sanity! LOL

I did receive the ATA's from VT though I only use one of them currently. They all litterally worked right out of the box which was great. I don't use my ATA to connect directly to VT any more though; that's done using my Asterisk PBX and the ATA merely connects my POTS phone to my PBX.

I've used the VT trunk with the ATA's, IP phones, soft phones and Asterisk (now known as TrixBox) and it's solid and very easy to configure and get working.

I've communicated with VT's support services using the online support system a number of times. In the early days responses were almost instant! After the 2 year for 12 month promos, things wern't quite so quick and I would have to wait a few days at times. My problems wern't anything I couldn't live with so I wasn't too worried but if they had been, I would have just called.

If you're calling, call early or later in the day to avoid long hold times. Having said all of this, when I get to speak to support, my issues are resolved 99% of the time and the guys are nothing but professional and cordial.

I've gotten about 16 other guys to sign up with VT and these guys switched from existing VoIP services such as Vonnage and AT&T. You can't touch the price and the levels of service you get.

One thing I did do which significantly reduced the "lag" in conversations (not that is was bad at all) was to use a local server. I configured my service to use the richmond server - as I live in VA - which offered far less latency than the one I was using. I make these changes in Asterisk but I believe you can change them in the web control panel for your regular ATA use.

Overall, I'm 100% happy with VT and wouldn't hesitate in recomending them to anyone else.

Now the guy that runs this forum - he needs to fix the broken images in the emoticon selection box! LOL But seriously, it's great to have the support forums also, kudos!
