I hope this does not happen to many people, but if this happened to anyone else, please speak up.
Brendan, I know you watch the DSLReports forums, and I assume this forum gets at least equal, if not more attention; if you can help me out, I'd appreciate it.
When I called the sales group to signup, I asked the rep if I could try the service out via the month-to-month rate, and then upon confirming that everything works correctly, buy into one of the promotional rates (at the time, the promotion was 2yrs for $199). At the time, I was told this was ok. I signed up, received a phone number and login information, and was up. After a few problems with my asterisk box config files, everything seems to be working as it should (many thanks to Brandon who kept tabs on the issue). After I felt confident that my service was adequate, I attempted to call back to the sales department and sign up for the promotion. The rep told me that the 199/2yrs was not available anymore, than offered me another promotional, then realized that because I already had a month-to-month account, I WAS INELIGIBLE for the promotional rate. I called in the evening, and the rep told me that there were no managers available, and that his word was the best he could do. While I respect his position (he can't promise something he is not authorized to follow thorough on) had I been told this initially, I would likely have taken my chances and signed up for the 2yr service and hoped for the best. I feel that I was led to believe that the option was available to me, and for the exact purpose that I was using it (to trial test the service before committing to 2 year contract with a 50% cancellation penalty). If anyone is looking to signup with VT, definitely be aware of this stipulation. As for the service itself, it works great, and I couldn't be happier with the service, though I'd be totally tickled if I could get in on the promotional I wasn't able to get or one like it.
