Anyone have any luck setting up Viatalk VOIP on their T-Mobile Blackberry Pearl? I'm in the process of getting the service and the device and welcome any input.
Thanks.

problem with tmobile is the bandwidth. Tmo's best data speed is (as of now) EDGE, which goes at around 50-70kbit/sec. That isn't really enough for VoIP, not for ulaw at least. VT doesn't currently use any other codecs (such as iLBC, GSM or G.729) which use more compression (and thus less bandwidth) and might work on Tmo...
Alternatively you could set up a simple Asterisk (/trixbox/asteriskNOW) server for yourself, connect it to VT and then the softphone to it. The * box can then do transcoding and feed the PDA a really low bandwidth codec like GSM or G.729.

This seems like an old thread so you probably already bought the phone. I use a Pocket PC with Windows mobile from sprint. Any Windows phone can run Xten lite or SJphone for PPC free. Also, (www.sprint.com/sero) has a plan for 30 bucks a month that will give you free EVDO (400-700 kbps average, up to 2mb/sec if you can get a good enough signal). It also gives you 500 minutes, nights at 7pm and free mobile to mobile.

Did anyone find a BB Pearl application that would allow you to do this?
