I've got a Directv Tivo DVR10 and cannot make successful calls using Viatalk. I used to use Vonage and was able to find the prefix code to make successful calls to Tivo. Does anyone know the prefix codes needed to make calls using Viatalk?
I think adding *99# is the prefix that is needed, or at least that is the prefix that seems to work for some people.

Thank you for the code, but it did not work. I did find a code that does work.... ,#064,*99

I haven't been able to make my Directivo work with Viatalk using PAP2 at all. I used to have it working with Vonage but that was with a Motorola MTA.
When I had a PAP2 on Vonage I couldn't get it working either. I actually tried a number of devices on Vonage and the only one that worked reliably with my Directivo was the Motorola. Unfortunately, the Motorola device is tied to Vonage.

As noted in another post, the prefix *99 is used for our Call Record feature.
If you are having trouble with your DVR I would suggest either calling your provider and requesting a box with an Ethernet connection, or try placing a DSL filter on the line.

I posted this in another post the fix that worked for me.
Many online tools tell you to send some commands to the modem, pre-dial, to change the modem speed. I tried many remedies listed online where the codes should be entered in the dial prefix box. Those did not work for me, at all. I finally gave up and called DirecTV. They were able to quickly help by providing me the following config in the dial properties section:
Go into your dial properties view on your SAT-T60 and enter the following numbers in the different prefix boxes (i did not believe the guy that these would work until I saw it with my own eyes):
Dial Prefix: 12122773895 (this is so you can force it to dial a NYC number to get the most updated listing of numbers).
Call Waiting Prefix: *99,,*79,,#034
Dial Type: Tone Dialing
Line busy detection: Off
Dial tone detection: Off
The 1st time it didnt work then i tested it again and it took and now all is good.

That's only partially correct.
*99 only works correctly as the call record feature when dialed straight, no pauses....ie. *99-1-555-555-1234. However if there's a pause...*99 Pause Number then the Adapter interprets the *99 as the Modem Toggle Code.

Not sure if this will work for everyone, but it took me a couple of days of searching and trying and I finally got something that worked. You will need admin access to your device (I have a Sipura SPA-2102) to make some of the settings.
So, on the ATA (SPA-2102, I'm guessing the PAP2s have this setting as well), I changed/set these options:
Regional Tab
===========
- make sure *99 is set as the "Modem Line Toggle Code".
Line 1 Tab
===========
- use "newyork-1.vtnoc.net" as your proxy
- set "Silence Supp Enable" to "no"
- set "Silence Threshold" to "medium"
- set "Echo Canc Enable" to "yes"
- set "Echo Canc Adapt Enable" to "yes"
- set "Echo Supp Enable" to "no"
SIP tab
===========
- under RTP Parameters, set "RTP Packet Size" to "0.020"
Then, on the DirecTivo (I have an HR10-250 and a SD-DVR80), I used a variation of the settings above:
Dial Prefix: 212-277-3895
Call Waiting Prefix: ,#034,*99,*79,
Dial Type: Tone Dialing
Line busy detection: Off
Dial tone detection: Off
A few things I need to explain. First, I have a custom dialplan, and I have no idea how close it is to what ViaTalk provisions if you don't have a BYOD. My dialplan is this:
(*123|*70|[3469]11|0|00|[2-9]xxxxxx|1xxx[2-9]xxxxxxS0|[2-9]xx[2-9]xxxxxxS0|xxxxxxxxxxxx.)
Now, I'm no dialplan guru, I used a thread on voxilla.com to figure out the little I know. The thread is here:
http://forum.voxilla.com/linksys-sipura-voip-support-forum/do-craft-dial-plan-string-9511.html
You can read the thread above to figure out exactly what my dialplan does (and I'm sure it's screwy). The reason I bring up my dialplan is primarily because I think it is setup to not really send ANY star codes (*xx) to ViaTalk. Any star code I enter gets interpreted by my SPA-2102. So in the above Call Waiting prefix, the "*99" part isn't activating ViaTalk's recording feature, rather my devices Modem toggle. I believe, if you have a standard Viatalk dialplan, you can change (or get ViaTalk to change) the star code on your device to do the modem toggle, and then you could replace *99 above with whatever star code your device uses.
Second, and this part seemed to be the part that finally got it all working, is the RTP Packet Size. The default value on mine was "0.030". I found this information in a post at BBR:
http://www.dslreports.com/forum/remark,15277038?hilite=rtp+packet+size+viatalk+tivo
I have since found a number of other posts there that indicate that this value (otherwise known as PTime) causes your device to use more bandwidth, in order to get better sound quality. You could set it to "0.010" if you want to try, I haven't yet, but make sure you have the upload bandwidth to do it. See this thread for more on Sipura stuff:
http://www.dslreports.com/forum/remark,13657675?hilite=rtp+packet+size
Anyway, hope this might help someone....

razorr69 is my hero too. I was very skeptical but that setup worked perfectly on my Phillips DSR-704 DirecTV Tivo which is kind of an older model. I'll try it out on my D10 tomorrow.
I should also point out I tested the QoS on my router by forcing a call while downloading a 4GB file. The call went through twice without a hitch.

I tried this forever with my TiVo and NEVER got it to work. In my case I actually used it to my advantage. I called DirecTV and told them they had to do something as their equipment failed to work with my technology. They offered to replace it with their newer HR20 and I took it. Amazingly I have to tell you I like it a LOT better than my TiVo. It's not perfect but it's much faster than the TiVo, doesn't require the phone line and is continually being updated by DirecTV.

For anyone who can't get their DirecTivo to work with these settings, try using #019 instead of #034.
The above settings work only on my Philips DSR704. For my DTV D10 I had to use #019 to slow the modem speed down.
I'm having a different problem now though.
Even though I'm due for a call, one of my receivers tries to make a call about twice an hour. It may have been doing this for months or years, but I didn't notice it until I signed up for ViaTalk and started looking at my call logs. Does anyone else have this issue?

Here is some more info from a prior post. Hope it helps.
Tested out the service with my 322 receiver from dish. I tried to view my bill on the TV and it would fail. I went to the phone setup menu in my dish receiver and entered ( *99# ) and it worked flawlessly. No call record has been saved in my voicemail box so this is great also. I am guessing the ( # ) sign tells the box not to record it I am guessing. But I thought that you only needed to add a prefix if your connected to a PBX or some sort of system that needs an outside line. With my TWC box it always worked. Can someone explain this part to me. I thought it was only for DVR's and not regular receivers. Thanks in advance.

This is likely to get lost forever in the SunRocket Debacle of Aught Seven but...
Thanks Heat, but call recording is not the issue. I'm not recording any calls that show up as VMs.
The issue is that the Tivo boxes are phoning home twice per hour for no reason.
I did some digging and this appears to be a DirecTV issue that can't be (or has never been) fixed with a software update. Even though a call every 2 weeks is successful, the box still tries to dial into DirecTV each day.
This glitch is caused by changing the prefix settings to get the calls to go through with VoIP, and the problem is not limited to ViaTalk. Vonage customers have the same issue.
There is no fix and even though I'm unlimited, I do not appreciate the clicking on the line I hear from the boxes dialing out or picking up a phone "in use".
Therefore, I disconnected them from the phone jacks and will just deal with the stupid Tivo nag screens.

When I couldn't get the *99 or *99, prefixes to work I tried *99# and both my Directv Tivo DRV10 units were able to connect.
