Hello,

I'm not exactly one who enjoys sitting on the phone, so I'll try my luck on forums (as this has already been sent to support via a ticket also) to get answers.

If I were to actually read the terms of services at http://www.hostrocket.com/tos/ or http://tos.hostrocket.com/, there are some massive restrictions on "All Customers." First I need to understand how this works:
Any site with traffic or disk usage consisting more than 33% of file downloads (non html traffic) may be suspended.
Ok, so how does anyone not have a suspended account? The image for your title is probably bigger than the html in the page. That means that you are using more than 33% of your traffic for non html means. Even moreso, why is a dedicated server subject to this? Why can't my dedicated server be a file server (forbidden elsewhere)?

I have friends who are musicians. As musicians, they like to give out some of their work in mp3 format. They like to spread free music so people will come back to their sites to buy. I have been hosting their music (about 4 gigs of it) on my current dedicated server (from another company) for months and they LIKE to have the publicity that it gives them. According to the TOS, I man not have any mp3's or even link to them. Why not? The artists want me to have them. Again, how in the world could I keep my usage under 33% for non-html content?

I am confused. Apparently I cannot run any other applications on my server because they provide non-html bandwidth that will exceed 33%?

Please some one explain this, preferably with an official response as to why the terms of service to which I must agree do not affect me.

Thank you.

I got an official response that I expected. It generally said that those TOS are for shared hosting. Dedicated can use the 700 gb bandwidth for whatever they chose so long as it is legal, not spam/scams, and not adult content.

I ordered mine and am very happy with it! Now... php 5? that's for another thread

If it's a dedicated server, don't you have to install php yourself?

This is generally a bad idea if you are using a control panel. cPanel lets you recompile php very nicely from its interface (and successfully compiled php 5.1.2). If you were to use something like plesk, recompiling php yourself would probably break the control panel. cPanel would probably work if you installed it yourself, but it would not be able to administer Apache or PHP correctly after that.

I'm just curious in know how much you pay a month for your dedicated server? They use to have them posted, but they are no longer posted on their website.
