My setup seems to be working fine the way it is, except for an unrelated issue I've had for the last few days with incoming calls randomly having no inbound audio, but...

I have two lines with VT, and my pre-configured PAP2 had the second line on port 5061. If anyone knows how to do this with Asterisk, I'd like to give it a shot. I can't seem to get it configured to leave the primary number on port 5060, secondary on port 5061, and get them both to register. Presently, they are both registered on 5060 with no apparent issues.

I do not know if this is correct, you might want to search the Asterisk at home forums to see, but can you just add PORT=5061 in the sip_addition.conf file?

I'm not too familiar with Asterisk. I only have a vague idea of what you can do with it. What benefits do you see in using the software? Does it essentially just put the phones features more under your control instead of using ViaTalk's control panel?

I currently have a Asterisk + viatalk setup working.
Can you elaborate more on what your goals are? I might be able to help.

I currenlty have only one trunk setup to viatalk.

Asterisk is a full software PBX. Exactly like you would see in an office.
You can create extensions, voicemail, IVR, ring groups.
You can hook up an Asterisk server to viatalk for routing inbound and outbound calls.

It's definetly not plug and play. It took me the better part of a week to get everthing working the way I want it and I do Cisco VOIP for a living! :)

Asterisk can be a little intimidating at first glance, but you'll find that there is a good amount of documentation available to walk you through how to do it. http://voip-info.org is a good place to start. Post any questions you have and someone will most likely be able to help you here. Good Luck
