HostRocket has been growing at a very fast rate over the past few months and as a result of that our support team is becoming bogged down and response times are suffering slightly.

We are looking to add 3-4 people to our support staff over the next few weeks to get our response times back down to minutes instead of hours on most tickets.

If you believe you have a well above average understanding of how our web hosting and control panel systems work, and are interested in working part or full time, please send your resume in to us at apply@hostrocket.com

We are looking for people with the backgrounds in the following:

RedHat Linux
PHP
mySQL
Perl
SSI
Apache

It is necessary that anyone applying know how to fluently use our control panel systems, and be at least 18 years of age.

I wanted to work for hostrocket, but I'm only 14... :( Too bad, maybe in the near future. Im learning a lot more, from Peter and the Internet, and I could've answered some trouble tickets for newbies. I wouldn't need much money at all, barely any, almost nothing. Just to answer ticket, and be officially part of the staff.. Maybe in the future...!

Can I sugest that you pay particular attention to any applicants you may receive from the Far East or Australia/NZ
This would give you a wide spead across the time zones and you might even get some sleep ;)
As I'm sat here typing this you (rocketsupport) are online on AIM, it's 3:30 EST!!!!!!

I'm just learning Linux, but I'm using Mandrake. I don't know much about Apache either. otherwise I'd be all set with the CP, PHP/MySQL, Perl, SSI etc...

Yep, Im only a couple of days older than you. I know Peter is the same age. I know a lot more now, and I could answer basic questions, control panel questions, and stuff like that. Even if it's etremely low pay or none, i learn and get experience. I wish I could work for them, even if I only answer like 10 tickets a day, I learn.

I sent you a b-day card on icq, it reminded me 3 days before. But you were 14 and employed as a HostRocket Staff member. You are now 15, but you were working for hteym at 14. I wish I could! :)

I think it was because people find it weird how I can know so much stuff on the topic, have so much free time, need work experience before the summer and am so young.

The work experience part is because a company that I know (a bank) wants to hire me for 4 weeks in the summer to do some databasing stuff and I need work experience before hand.

But working at hostRocket is a great job, I do get paid, it may seam little compared to John and Brendan but for a 14 (15 now) year old person it is enough to get you to the movies a couple of times a week.

But I think Brendan and John want people over 18 because they are not in school and can spend more time working and answering tickets. That way they can improve the service to a much higher quality than at which it currently is.

Once people are hired get ready to see a great improvement once John and Brendan aren't answering tickets for 10 hours of the day!

PETESMC --

You're 15??? Good God...I wish I knew half this stuff when I was that age :) When I was fifteen I was playing around with the old school DOS based QBASIC prog...oh, and trying to survive being a geek in high school :)

Good luck to you man....I'm just turned the ripe old age of 24....

Don't they have child-labor laws in UK? You could work for a bank? Don't you have school in winter and spring, how do you answer tickets now? I just want to answer liek 10 a day, to help out, and of course learn.

PETESMC,
One more thing...props on your professionality...You've always been very helpful on these boards...especially with old dumb geezers like myself :)

Yes, the child labour law in the UK states that a child under 16 cannot work full time and a maximum of 3 hours a day I think.

I do have school in winter and spring, it ends at 4PM and I usually spend about 1 hour a day writing an article for my site (http://www.codingclick.com - The forum needs more members though) and then about an hour or teo answering tickets.

Sometimes I also spend an hour on the forum which is my three hours.

Thanks for thec compliment!

We've run a bit off track with this thread!?!?

I think all of this excitment, about me and other 14 year olds who want to answer tickets, and learn, because we have chosen a great hosting company that we like.

Peter, don't you study and do homework? Don't you play with friends at all when you are bored? If my math is correct, that leaves you at 7:00 to do all that?

If you were awake last night or list morning you would have sseen me awake at 4am.

That was just because I was writing a script.

I don't live close to my friends, but we always play online games together for about an hour a day and on holidyas about 3 or 4 hours.

Also, I do do my homework, I find it quite easy so I zip through it.

My mom says I need to intereact with my boring friends, and get off the computer sometimes. I am going to a College Preparaotry High School in Fall 2001,so I won't have a lot of time, with min. 3+ hours of homework a night, but... I could answer some tickets.

That's cool, but you don't get to goto proms, and stuff like that. I wish I could work for hostrocket, as I know a lot now, even for extremely low pay... I could answer a couple of tickets a day. how cool! I am extremely polite and couretous.

I wouldn't mind working for HR answering trouble tickets, as long as it would only be for about an hour a day (unless there is a sudden backlog or something).

I have a fair amount of PHP/MySQL etc... server knowledge, after a huge amount of testing of the PHP on my site, with additions (Thanks again Pete :D)

Thanks, Ian
