With this service do I still only have one "line" if I run my own asterisk server? I'm slightly new and doing research and asking questions.
The basic motivation for the question is if I run my own asterisk server with voice mail and no one at my home is present for a call, my asterisk server can handle it and email me the voicemail or whatever else. If I'm currently talking to someone and another call comes in, would it even reach my asterisk server since I'm using the ViaTalk "link" at the moment? Would I then be having to check my own voice mail AND viatalk's provided voice mail?
A couple of friends of mine that were just fooling around with asterisk (for educational purposes) have a 1.1 cent a minute PTNS termination and origination plan just for their own experiments and they are able to simultaneously call out and receive calls to their asterisk server. I was just wondering with one plan (The unlimited nationwide for $16) here, if that functioned the same way. That also causes problems (like I said above) with features on my own server, and provided with ViaTalk. I don't want to bother with setting up my own voice mail if we still have to use the system on the account for calls recieved while currently on the phone :)
This is our main question concerning the service :)
Also: I was told by a very friendly tech on the phone that using a softphone remotely (from a random broadband enabled place) requires me to unplug the adaptor at home. If I were to run an asterisk server is this still the case? I think the solution here is to have remote access to my asterisk server so when I use the softphone I dial in to my server and that solves that issue :) I was still wondering though! Thanks!
