View Full Version : My site is lagging

For the past few days, my site appears to be lagging. I don't understand what the issue is. It'll load very slowly for 5 minutes, then for 2 minutes it'll suddenly load fast, and then back to slow. Normally it loads quickly all the time. I haven't changed any settings, nor do I use huge images. I've noticed that my FTP is lagging as well. I know it isn't my internet connection - all other sites load normally, and someone else know who uses Host Rocket has their site loading normally as well.

I believe I am on Host 40. I'm begining to think there's something wrong with my site because the server status says all servers are running at 100%. If anyone can help or tell me what's going on, that would be appreciated. And if you need it, my URL is http://www.open-orbit.com

Thanks!

You're not the only one having this problem. There's another thread about the same thing, but with host81. I'm having the same problem too, and I'm on host78.
It's getting a little bit frustrated because all they can say is that it's functionning normally right now. But this is a problem that keeps going up and down.
And the other solution they propose is to switch host servers, but I don't think that would help since I can see that there's not only one server that's having this problem. And I already switched servers, it's a pain in the ass, you have to chmod all your files and folders again.
Hope they could explain better or find a better solution.

You might try a traceroute to see if any one hop is experience a hight latency issue. You won't be able to see the last hop (the server itself) because HR blocks all pings on the servers.

I posted about host81, it's a disgrace really. The problem is SQL performance for us, we just can't get SQL connections at all, now it's extended to SSH connections as well and straight HTTP. Add to that the fact that mail accounts weren't working for half a day either and it's a sorry story.

We weren't offered any host switching just some lame and incorrect suggestions based on a lack of understanding of MySQL or Linux.

 nightmare... a useful reminder that things could actually get worse, I'll take a backup.

What exactly is the problem, I wonder? I sent a ticket in to Host Rocket and they said the issue has been resolved, but they didn't say what the problem was. And my site is still slow.

That's exactly what I got a week ago when I logged a problem. They now say I can move server, since the problem is they're unable to manage capacity properly I can't see what difference it'll make.

Well, the problem seems to be fixed now. Apparently they had a user whose site used a lot of server resources, so they moved him/her to a dedicated server. Now everything seems to be fine. So it could be that someone else on your server is having a spike in activity, and that slows all the rest of the sites down.

That's what I suggested to them was the problem to start with, I got a mail a few hours back telling me it was fixed as well. I've lost count, maybe the 6th or 7th telling me that this week, as I read the mail our site was down again. I'm not holding my breath.

More to the point, I can't see any reason it won't happen again. You expect some sort of capacity and resource management that's clearly not happening.

I see my site's been up and down for the last 12 hrs as usual, for a bonus this morning mail's not working either. Time to look for a new hosting provider I think, Hostrocket clearly aren't up to the job.

same here...

I'd like my website to be in the same server as this forum! it's always fast here!
