View Full Version : Bandwidth Tracking

I am a dedicated server customer who opted against including CPanel on my dedicated server package. First off let me say I am exceptionally happy with the performance of the HR team, their network, and the server I am using.

My question however is regarding the bandwidth I use. Since I chose not to use CPanel, I have no way of tracking my bandwidth.

But since HR only provides 700GB per month of bandwidth, you *must* be tracking me somehow, otherwise you'd never know just how much I am using. I highly doubt that for all dedicated accounts, HR relies on CPanel's tracking to do utilization tracking.

So my question is, will there ever be a way to track this external to the server itself? I had tried a solution that used IPTables to log all packets travelling across the interface and then calculate bandwidth utilization that way, but this was rather resource intensive and I decided against it.

I'm not concerned that I will see any overages any time soon, but it would be nice to know so that I can proactively plan for the future, or should I develop any other sites that I might wish to host on the same box.

Thanks for your time!

I *thought* that dedicated servers came with a little control panel from HR for managing your account. I would think if they did have that, it would show your bandwidth used. However I could be wrong, and there might not be one available..

That is a good question. I wonder if a ticket to support may be needed for an answer.
