I'm chmod'ing files to 777 and they don't change. I'm not a complete newbie, but I can't figure out what the problem is. Any ideas?

I had a file just yesterday that would not let me chmod it to 777. I kept getting an error message saying I did not have permission to do this. So, I deleted the file from the server, and uploaded the copy that was on my local machine and then it worked fine. Go figure! Anyway, that was the only thing I could come up with. Luckily, I had an exact copy of the file on my local drive. Maybe you could try that if you have a copy of the file(s).
There is probably a better way to do this, but that was my solution.

How would I know? Do people have rights to change file permissions by default at hostrocket?
I tried uploading the file again. It's actually a lot of files we're talking about.

I think at this point I would send HostRocket a trouble ticket to see what they think the problem might be. You can log in at www.hostrocket.com/support. Let us know what you find out.
