Am thinking about buying a new gaming system as a present. Wondering what your favorite gaming system is and why. Thanks!

PC! :p
Which console to get all depends on what kinda games they want to play.
- The GameCube has all of the Ninentdo games like Mario, Zelda, etc.
- The PS2 has Gran Turismo, GTA titles, etc.
- XBox has Halo and some other games.
Then of course, there are the 3rd party games that are released for all 3 (Spiderman for example).
If the person you're getting it for would know enough which one is for them, I suggest and IOU so that they can be in on the process. If not, tell us how old they are and their sex and we can go from there. :)

I like the PS2 but only because I like the range of games it includes. It's easy to get it online and free to play most online games (depends on publisher).
XBOX I stay away from because it's by M$.
I would only get a GameCube for Zelda games.

It is for your standard 14-year-old boy. He's played all the video consoles at friends, but I can't figure out which he'd like best.

Probably PS2 or XBox. If I had to guess, I'd say PS2. More of a range of games for the PS2 and online play is usually free, as said.
Just make sure to keep the receipt. ;)

My nephew is 14 and he has an XBox. He likes to do the online gaming with his friends and really like this system. On the other hand, my kids prefer PS2 and have been on Playstation for many years.
As was said PS2 has a very wide choice in games and there are plenty of "E" games that the whole family can play, if you are too worried about the violence and stuff. Probably not a big deal at 14, but it can be for younger kids. I have an 8 year old and a 13 year old.
PS2 will also do online gaming and it has the Eye Toy. The eye toy is pretty cool and the kids love to play it. It also gets them up and jumping around so they actually get some exercise while playing.
Hope that helps.

Well, most people buy a PS2 at first, then, they buy a Xbox.
In a big family a GameCube is handy because you can play with 4 people at the same time (Xbox and PS2 you can play with 2).
I suggest to take the Playstation 2, because it has a wide range of games and online gameplay is free :)

I don't know about you, but the last time I played my XBox it had four controller ports...
I'd actually recomend the XBox over the PS2. I think the system has better support for online games (since the ethernet card is built in and XBox live is Broadband only).
I would also give a slight graphical nod to the XBox as well. It has stronger hardware.

Umm, XBox has 4 controller ports and you can play up to 8 people on a PS2. You just need a multitap which allows 4 controllers to be plugged into one of those ports.
I don't know of any 8 player games though. Most mutliplayer ones are 2 or 4 players.

Actually, there are 12 games who have that function

Well, PS2's has it's drawback. It's not centralized meaning that you can only browse players and stuff for your current game.
The XBox is more like a PC where you can get online and see what games your friends are playing.

lol neither do I, plus it's a waist I still have over 60 dreamcast games 4 paddles, a super nes with 20 games and 4 paddles left to rot. When I wanna play PS2 for my leisure time I just go over my Bro-In-Laws house and play it on the 72 inch.

I'll have to start an internal investigation. If you work for HR, you're not supposed to have that.

Anybody try the new PSP yet? Our local Walmart just got them in yesterday. At $250 a pop, they are out of my price range, but the guy there said they sold 30 on their first day.

It's quite cool, you can play movies, music, games, but it's quite expensive really.

I have owned them all and here is what I think.
XBox - Great strong system with many great titles made by developers that take their time and spend some $$ on the development of the games. It may not have as many games as the other consoles but the ones that are there are for the most part very good. This would be my 2nd choice.
PS2 - Its OK and great if you are a PS fanboy/girl who cant get enough GTA or GT. It does have a HUGE library of games to choose from but 90% of them are garbage. The titles are rushed out unfinished and poorly designed just so a developer can get a box on the shelf. They spend little money and time on the games they make so it only takes a few suckers to buy the game to turn a profit. This would be my last choice.
Game Cube - I love the Game Cube. It is simple and fun. Games for Nintendo consoles have always seemed to have one objective. They are made to be fun. They don't have all the bells and whistles that the other consoles have and they don't focus on blood baths and blowing stuff up like the other systems titles seem to do. They have some of those games but not in the same numbers as the other systems. If you want a simple yet still impressive system with fun game play at a low price go with the Game Cube. If I could have only 1 console this would be it.
Nintendo Advanced SP - Great hand held at a lower price. Very very compact and it easily fits in a pocket. It is the only traveling game system that is truly easy to travel with. I had fun with mine but I would not buy one now in fear of it being phased out. I don't know how much longer games will be released on the SP now that the DS is out.
Nintendo DS - It is still new and hasn't seen its full potential. I am liking the touch screen but it seems to be over used. Remember when the Matrix used bullet time and then EVERYONE had to use it until it got old? Thats how I feel about the touch screen. Hopefully the new will wear off and we will see some titles that rely on good old button pressing. Given time I think this will be an excelent handheld.
Sony PSP - EXPENSIVE! Way out of most peoples price range. I happened to get mine for $4.95 and have a seccond and third one on the way soon that cost me $10 each. My HR site will be dedicated to assisting people in getting them for cheap or free. I have mine already. I just like doing it for fun and for the practice I will get creating and maintaing the web page. I will not tell you how using this forum unless a mod approves it. Even though it is perfectly legal and completly scamless, forum mods sometimes see it as spam. If you would like to know how send me an email @ kevin.irick1@gmail.com and I will hook you up. So far I am loving it. The screen is absolutly BEAUTIFUL. However, I have noticed a little bit of motion blur like you would get on just about any LCD type screen. It isn't enough to be a problem but it is there. I can only afford one game ATM so I bought Wipeout. It is fun and looks very nice. It also has a hidden built in web browser you can use to browse the web at any open wireless acess point. Just google "PSP hacks" if you want to see how. The battery life is good and the value pack has some good stuff in it. You can not compare the DS to the PSP because they are 2 completly different things. I could not recommend one over the other.
PC - The best thing ever made for gaming. Since you are using a PC to read this I will not go to deep into PCs. Only bad thing about PC gaming is patches, drivers, and portability. Game patches come out non stop. If you play online you will have to always have the latest patch and sometimes that can be annoying. Patches also cause driver issues from time to time so you then have to get the latest drivers if they are available and if they are not you have to wait for the vendor to release a new one that adresses the problems. Unless you want to spend $3,000 on a notebook you are not going to do any serious gaming and a tower is to big to carry arround. Consoles are far more portable and easier to put in luggage when you go traveling. Almost everywhere you stop to rest will have a TV so there is no need to carry a monitor like you would with a PC.
Sony PSP - EXPENSIVE! Way out of most peoples price range. I happened to get mine for $4.95 and have a seccond and third one on the way soon that cost me $10 each. Yes it is. Although there are TONS AND TONS of site out there that advertise free items most of them are scams. The ones I have used are definatly not scams as I am holding a PSP righ now that I received from the site. I have done my homework and I have found the true legit sites that give these away. It would be wrong to call them free but darn cheap ($4.95) would be far from a lie.
Free site X is an advertisment company. They get paid $50 to $100 for every customer they bring to the companies they advertise. Companies pay them that because it is far far cheaper than the millions they could be spending on TV and radio adds that are not guaranteed to bring in a single customer. With this method they pay only for actual customers brought to their electronic store front. Free site X takes this money and buys your item including shipping and has just enough cash left over to turn a small proffit. Once you understand how it all works it is easy to see that it is not a scam at all as long as you stick with legit companies. My HR site congacommunity.com will be created to show people where to go and the best methods for getting their items quicker. I am not affiliated with any free site at all. I just hate to see a great idea being blown off by all the people that think it is a scam. Hopefully when my site goes live I can change a few minds.
The company that started it all is GratisInternet. It all started with freecondoms.com and evolved into freeiPods, freePSPs, and many others. They are the best site to go with IMO and are 100% spam free.
Here (http://www.FreePSPs.com/ ) is my personal link to freepsps. You do not have to use my link but PLEASE use someones. If you are going to sign up help someone else in the process. Don't just go to their site and set up a fresh account. Helping someone changes noting for you. Everything will be the same but by signing up using someone link will get them their PSP. By signing up you are not comitted to anything. Feel free to look arround. If its not for you then just don't do it.
Here is some proof for ya. It is me and my free psp :D (http://forums.gameagon.com/index.php?showtopic=506)
I know referral links can lead to horrable forum spam but I beleive this is in context and far from being any kind of spam. However, if anyone is offended by me posting my referral link just let me know and I will remove it immeadiatly.
Well, I tried Gratis network once, signedup for 2 products that they offered, and they never sent me what they were souposed to. So I have a hard time believing in it.

Joe0204
04-05-2005, 08:10 PM
Yeah that sucks. No workie in Europe. It only works in the US and just recently in Canada. KLH, what site did you do? Did you get your referrals? The customer support there is pretty good. Just send in a ticket with whatever problems you are having and you should get a responce by the next day. You didn't try to cheat the system did you? If you signed up twice, used the same aderess or IP more than once that is cheating and against the TOS. One signup per person, IP, and household per site. If you get caught cheatin you will be placed on hold. Hold is a nice way for them to say you are never getting your free stuff. Play by the rules and it goes very smoothly.
I am not at all calling you a cheater KLH. I am just letting you know what might have happened. If you did none of the no nos just send in a ticket and you should be up and running agin.
KLH to prove my faith in the site I will pay you $5 over paypal if you use my link to sign up. That will completly cover the PetChews offer on the site and will give you a few pennies to put in your pocket. That offer will satisfy your requirements then you just need to get a few friends to do the same.
Ruben there are a few legit sites that work in Europe. I will do some research and see if I can find some for you. I will PM you with the results.
Hope this helps,
Joe
The PSP in my pocket and I are walking proof that it works. I know you don't know me so it might be hard to believe a stranger. All I can really do is say it works and hope you beleive. Here is an article from wired that might help. (http://www.wired.com/news/mac/0,2125,64614,00.html)
Edit: I have completed my requirements and now have my 2nd PSP on the way. I have change the link on the other post to this. (http://www.FreePSPs.com/) It isn't my link but it is someones. KLH I will still send you the $5 if you sign up under that link. Why? Because I teach 1 person that it is real I have won :)

Alright Joe, a question here, do I have to do the free psp or can I do another one like the free computer or the free TVs?
And when it says "refer some friends" How many people do I have to refer, and how many actually have to signup and do something?

I participate in igive.com for similar reasons. The non-profit agency of my choice gets donations for everything I buy through igive, and igive itself has an increasingly huge collection of businesses that participate. There's no reason why you should purchase your airline tickets through a place like expedia without letting your favorite agency get a little support.
In my case, I help Ahimsa House, which is a temporary animal shelter run by a friend of mine in Atlanta, GA, for abused pets and pets of abused individuals. So, instead of getting myself a free ipod, I help take care of little kitties and puppy dogs too. ;P
The reasoning is, if you are already spending money online, help someone out by clicking in the right places.

Alright Joe, a question here, do I have to do the free psp or can I do another one like the free computer or the free TVs?
And when it says "refer some friends" How many people do I have to refer, and how many actually have to signup and do something?
The link I posted is good for PSPs only. There are other sites by Gratis and my other favorite company Offer Centric that give other items. As far as how many referrals you need a good rule of thumb is $50 per referral. A PSP cost arround $250 so it takes 5 people to build up that amount of cash. A iPod shuffle cost about $100 so it usually takes 2 or 3 people. There are sites that offer outragous prizes like 60' plasma TVs but the amount of people it takes to get one is just stupid.
You asked how many need to sign up and how many need to do something. You have to get people to sign up and complete 1 offer any offer. If they do not complete an offer they don't count.
KLH if you decide to do a different site please find someone's link to sign up under. Help someone out in your persuit of your freebie goodness.
I have found a new favorite offer. It is freebidding.com. It cost about 3 dollars to sign up for 24 hours. Just sign up and keep it for a few hours and then cancel if you do not like it. You will not like it. It is the worst site ever made but it counts as an offer for your item.
Edit: Sorry Silmaril8n. I didn't mean to hijack the forum like that. If you guys have any questions just email me or post in my forums HERE. (http://forums.congacommunity.com/index.php)
