Trouble with getimagesize()

I'm doing a little catalogue project for my company, it's a small catalogue involving picture and small amount of data such as reference, description and size. Simple a page with thumbnails and data. I recently be awarned that user sometimes get trouble uploading picture because the getimagesize() can't read the picture. Picture is taken with a digital camera that has an exif data, I suspect that exif is a 'trouble maker' :) , because when I remove exif data with Irfan View, pictures are smootlhy uploaded with no trouble at all. I'm trying to figure out, how to remove an exif data from picture, but I get no clue how to do that.
Can Someone advise me ?
